The water was very high and made the fishing rather difficult. The the water was coming through at a tremendous pace. I did however manage to catch a barbel of around 5lb and a chub of around 4lb on Halibet pellet. As the water was continuing to rise and fishing conditions were not good as it rained most of the day and the banks were slippery I reluctantly decided to come home two days early.
The Wye River has wonderful potential for barbel and chub my main target but the contitions were far from perfect. That's fishing. I did find other anglers and the fishing tackle shop in the area very friendly and helpful and managed to gather a lot of information for next time.

8 Barbel and half-dozen chub fishing lower and upper sections, starting at 4pm, so short session then. Bright warm showery conditions with till 4 foot on. A favourite peaceful beat nonetheless; in one view in front of me I had a Heron's nest with two Herons busy, a Buzzard feeding it's youngster in the line of trees with what looked like a rabbit, and a Perigrine at 30 feet up, up and down the far bank as well as overhead in full view, feeding on flying insects for all afternoon. Then a shooter in the field behind me into dusk, with a couple shots belting into the river. Good job I was downmazing day all round the bank. Amazing afternoon all-round.

River dropped about 18 inches through the day. Fished the lower end of the beat by the cottage, had 12 barbel and 2 chub, fish were about 5-6lb average in good condition. All fish taken on block end feeder filled with 4mm pellet with small and large pellet on the hook. Plagued by chub all day, had to ignore all the tugs and plucks and wait for the barbel. Weather was great so a cracking day, I was the only one there.

First Barbel session of the year and full of hope out testing new product from Alcedo. River highish and a little coloured. Perfect for Barbel although the favoured lower pool could not be accessed due the high water.
Result was just one 8-9lb fish on meat for a full afternoon and evening session. Heavy fight in very fast white foaming water! Will be back when its a bit lower or will go high for the Salmon.
Thanks to Don as always.

7 barbel to 8lb all caught after 6pm. Some swims very snaggy. No problems with fishermen from opposite bank which was a nice change. Thank you WUF.

River still high but looked good, fished upstream of the Lugg so water much clearer, fast flowing so only able to fish close in. 1 x small barbel, 1 x chub, 1 x dace and 4 x eels all about 2lb (all on pellet which is a first for me)
Very sunny and hot.

The final day of our trip to the Wye, one of our party having gone home. The river had dropped to 3 foot above normal summer levels and fell a little more while we were fishing. We opted to fish the deeper slower water in Leggs Meadow and managed 13 barbel between us on a mixture of pellets, boilies and paste. As usual on this excellent fishery the fish were of a good average size, best being 9lb 1oz backed up by several 8's and 7's.
