River was 8 foot above normal height and rose another 6-12 inches through the day. Only Legg Meadow swims really fishable and fished the 2nd and 3rd pegs. 2 Barbel caught between the 2 of us .... 6lb 2oz at 10:10 and 6lb 3oz at 21:45 and one small eel. Both barbel were on double Ellipse pellets. We tried various other baits but there was nothing much in the way of activity apart from the fish. Lots of wildlife. Used feeders around 2-4oz and lost a few during the day!
Stayed at the Bunkhouse at Jovial Colliers Inn in Lydbrok which we can recommend as very good value for money, clean, friendly and got up early too cook us breakfast !
No phone signal on O2 :-(

We fished this beat for the first two days of the coarse season in dire conditions. River very high and rising. We drew a blank on the first day even after trying various swims. The second day the river was even higher but we managed to winkle out 4 barbel and two chub.

Did book one rod as salmon for myself, but I knew before getting to the river that was not going to happen, so we were all after the barbel. River was well up and very coloured maybe five or six feet of extra water. I like the river up for barbel but would have liked to have been on a beat I knew with the river like this. First time we had seen this part of the river and by 1130 we had all drawn a blank! and the other three packed up. I did manage to find the fish and had three from the top of the beat before I had enough of the rain too and packed up about 1530.

River very high and coloured was too much of a challenge for us. We tried for a few hours in the morning but no good so packed up. Hats off to the rods on other beats who stuck it out and caught fish. The beat itself is great and Ian, who manages it, is very helpful. The bird and nature watching was a great compensation. Got very close to a pair of otters, I could of poked them on the nose with the end of my rod, and lots of interesting birds - Skylarks, Redstarts, Gooseanders, Sandpipers, Reed Bunting amongst others. Bill Oddie eat your heart out.

Area:Upland Llyns
Beat:Moor Pools
Fishing:Coarse
No. of Anglers:1
Started off on the Lower Pool, but could only get small rudd on maggot;had no bites on sweetcorn or bread. Moved to the Top Pool in the afternoon. Spent half an hour with the rake, clearing a swim. Only had 2 rudd from here. There were a lot of fish showing in a clear spot, but could not cast to it. I think the pool needs the weed cleared before it gets too bad in the Summer.
