7 barbel plus 2 good chub between 4 anglers. Hard going to be honest, highlight seeing so many salmon jumping - great sight.

Our second visit to Don's beautifully presented and sensitively managed traditional mixed fishery. We knew that early season barbel can be slow on the river. Very pleased to report 26 barbel to 9lb, 16 chub 2 over 5lb over 3 days. The canoe menace reached its peak on Sunday, whilst most were polite and having a good time some were drunken yobs who did not understand the meaning of private property and it quikly became tiresome asking them to pack up there picnics and depart so we could fish. Fortunately this menace is short lived and by 4pm the river returns to normality. The fishery is absolutely stunning and it is a joy to catch scale perfect fish in such quantity using traditional methods. Thank you Don for a truely memorable few days.

First cast 7.15am a barbel of 11lbs 8oz. First fish of the day ..........and the last! At least it was a personal best. There was evidence that the barbel were still spawning. So this result may not be indicative of the quality of this beat. We tried various swims along the beat with no response. I look forward to reading the catch results over the next few weeks. The swims that have been created in the upper part of the fishery are very comfortable with good access but the rest of the fishery is still largely inaccessible. I hope the good work of clearance will continue.

A little water in the river which was great to see, about 1.5 feet up. Took a little fishing around to find the barbel, found them after lunch and we had 8 to about 8.5 pound and some chub all within a few hours. My cousin had his barbel rod snapped in two by a lean long 8 pounder! (he was not too upset as his PB went from about 4 pounds to 8.5). So that spelt the end of a lovely first day of the coarse season.

It was nice to be able to fish this beat in the Summer for coarse fish. Fished the Mill Pool but only managed 3 chub to 4lbs and missed a couple of bites, all on luncheon meat.

1 chub (3.5lb) and a minnow. 1st time on Wye, found it difficult to find good "fishy" looking spots (water levels very low), Paths marked on map from the hut had overgrown. Also did not want to upset landowners by trampling vegetation down to waters edge so ended up being rather static in a couple of spots. Still will learn more over next few months.

We fished on and off all day with 2 barbel and a chub for our efforts. Static and roving approaches, mixture of baits - the barbel just didn't want to know. They spawned in April so unless they have had a second round of it then it was inexplicably quiet. Lovely to be back out bait fishing on the river.

A pleasant opening to the season. Great scenic venue. 3 Rods caught an equal mixture of Barbel and Chub throughout the stretch. Thanks to Colin for his feedback.

Fantastic little beat - a dozen chub up to 4lb. The barbel are there if you can get through the chub.
