What a splendid way to finish the season. 7 barbel between 6 - 7.5 lbs, 5 chub up to 4.15oz (bounced the scales but couldn't get it to go over the magic 5lb barrier!) a 3 lb 2oz brown trout and a 5lb jack.

You definitely have to stay the pace and make the most of the last hour of daylight / dusk to get the best from the fishery. First barbel came at 8.15am, second at 5pm. I'll be back to try this stretch in the summer.

Another cold start to the day, with a light frost. Not good for barbel fishing. We knew from the previous day that maggot would be the bait to use. The fishing was hard work for most, although one rod did manage 12 Barbel and 2 Chub. 2 other Barbel and 3 Chub to the other 3 rods. Thanks again to the Wye Usk Foundation for a superb service.

Sharp overnight frost made for a very hard day, only 1 rod caught a Barbel and a Grayling, apart from that all that took our maggot hook baits were Minnows. The Barbel here on this beat do tend to be a good average size, 8lb 5oz today. My thanks to Alyson and all in the Wye Usk office for their help.

Cold day with overnight frost, made this a hard day, between 4 rods we managed 3 Barbel to 4lb 8 oz, and 3 chub to 4lb 10oz. All fish falling to maggot hookbaits.

Lovely day and great new stretch of water. Only managed to fish about 5 swims from Carey Pool at the top to just below the islands but took 2 Barbel (6 lbs and 8 lbs) and 2 Chub (1 1/2 lbs and 4 lbs) all on a cocktail of small pellet and red maggots (neither seemed to work on their own). Nice way to finish the season - can't wait until Summer. Found one swim where the spot you'll sit in is so protected from the elements that when the sun came out I had to take my jacket off!

Very cold and frosty overnight and with the river low and clear we didn't expect much action. In fact between the two of us we didn't have a bite all day despite moving swims and trying light lines and small baits. Roll on the warmer days of summer!

A very cold and overcast day. Two Chub caught. One of 4lb 8oz and the other 5lb 3oz. Missed quite a few bites but we were happy to land two pristine fish. A lovely stretch of river. We will be returning in the summer to target the Barbel.

5 chub up to 3lb 14oz some on bread, some on sweetcorn.
2 pike biggest about 8lb on Sardines.

First and biggest chub came second cast promising a good day. Other than the pike, which I took whilst roving during the afternoon, my next bite came at 6.15pm. Between then and 7pm I had a further four chub and missed another 4 bites. Probably should've gone fine line and maggot feeder during the day as it was very bright and water is pretty clear.

Still a very plesent day on a really attractive and varied piece of water.

What a lovely bright cold sunny day it was with a frisky easterly wind.

When the winds in the east the fish bite least, then when my brother was back to the car away went his rod.

1 barbel of 5lb,better than nothing.

No salmon seen.
