Fished for barbel all day in one spot hoping to intercept any on the move. Not a touch all day. Water temp was 40deg so not really surprising. The wind was rather cold but sitting behind the shelter in the sun was very pleasant. I was booked in for the following day when I had planned on a more mobile approach. Overnight the temperature dropped to minus 5 so I did not even bother going back, I went home instead. Roll on the start of the new season!

Arrived at whitehouse at 8.30 after a walk i managed to find a peg I fancied at the bottom end of the beat and away i went. I had a chub about 4lb first chuck and another second chuck. Lost 1 third chuck then waited 15 mins for the next bite and landed a lovely barbel about 8lbs all on pellet. Then it was just like someone switched the fish off and I didnt have another bite on the feeder which coincided with the cold easterly wind getting up but managed 2 small chub and a stray trout on float fished sweetcorn towards the end of the day. A very nice beat and will fish again in the summer thanks very much Wye and Usk Foundation

A lovely warm sunny spring day at last. The river low but with a little colour. Surprisingly hard going with the chub proving elusive and reluctant to feed. Managed to weedle out 3 in the end, all on meat. Also caught a rainbow trout on bread of about 2 and a half pounds. Don't know what he was doing there?

I blanked but my brother managed a 3.5 lb chub and a bonus 6lb salmon (kelt). Both were taken on double maggot. The chub fell to feeder tactics but the salmon took trotted maggot and gave a good account of itself on a 18 hook and 3lb hook length.

7 barbel (6 for me :-) ) and 3 chub. Water even lower than last report. Barbel still to be found tightly shoaled in about a 40 metre secton of the beat. They tended to shy away from the angler wearing the Chris Yates tweeds, though the ducks were fascinated by him for some reason.
Pre baiting the spot where we found the barbel had little effect as nearly all were caught in the pool upstream from where the bait was (only 30 yards or so). Big 22mm pellets and pellet feeder were by far the best tactic. Lost 3 Barbel, one when my despised Shimano baitrunner decided to not surrender any line due to S**t clutch system, and a big fish just clean snapped a newly tied 8lb hooklink, on a through action rod.
Biggest fish 7lb 4oz.
Biggest laugh, my fishing partner being loved by every duck in the whole stretch. He even moved from where he caught the 7+ barbel just to get away from them, but they love him long time and followed him to his new spot. :)
Lovely day again, will be interesting to see where the fish go when the levels rise.
Thanks WUF for keeping this stretch in top condition.

Fishing in the wooded section and starting fishing at first
light I can only describe this as a real red letter day on this fantastic stretch of Wye using a pellet feeder with elipse pellet and paste on the hook. Within the first hour 2 barbel and 2 chub came to the net finishing the day 15.30 with a total 10 barbel with wieghts between 7 and 8 pounds and 15 chub between 3lb with the largest going 5lb 1oz.
After 37 years of barbel fishing this ranks up there with the best and one other great part of the day was meeting Don a real good guy.
who realy cares about the fish and this river.
