The plan was for England to lift the European cup, then catch 200 chub while basking in the glory…. Best laid plans and all that! Spain and the weather had different ideas, however the morning was dry so we pitched on the bend which seems full of big chub and a surprise barbel, popped back in the evening and fished by the hut for more big chub until more rain closed in, shame as it’s a stunning beat, don’t book if your nervous of cattle.

Barbel and one chub caught on 14 mm pellet ledgered, 3 chub caught on double 8mm pellet ledgered. Going was slow - fished from about 7 am until 13:30 Weather hot. Had to have 5 attempts to ascend the hill of doom. It needs compacting , it’s too loose for anyone without 4 wheel drive.

Two anglers fished. Very tough day with only 2 chub caught, biggest around the 2lb mark. After good day yesterday on different beat catching lots of good chub we focused in the morning trying for barbel with big baits but not a sniff. In the afternoon we would have settled for anything with fins but despite trying lots of swims, methods and baits they just didn't seem very interested and just 2 small chub to show for our efforts. Conditions seemed good but Just one of those days the fishing gods deciided to laugh at our struggles.

Slow going off the croys in the middle section (below the fishing hut) trotting down fishing the crease and also casting to the far bank and trotting down along the tree line, picking up some smaller chub and roach in the crease and some larger chub off the far bank. Moved after lunch to the fast section at the bottom just by Luggsmouth and had some success wading out and casting to the far bank; picking up maybe 15 chub to 4lb on luncheon meat.

Lovely day as usual on the Wye trotting a float standing in the river , fishing was difficult in the bright sunshine but found a nice group of big chub in the afternoon which were willing to feed
