It was our first fishing trip to the Wye and we had our fingers crossed for a first ever Barbel. After a very long dry spell we were hoping that the drop in pressure which accompanied the wind and rain might prompt the fish to feed. It didn't really turn out that way and bites proved hard to come by. A small chub after an hour gave us hope but nothing else was forthcoming from The Point swim. A move downstream to James's, which we had pre-baited, resulted in two further chub and to our delight a Barbel of about 5lb! We fished on for another few hours but all we managed were a small bleak on the float and a minnow which had managed to get its head stuck through one of the holes in the feeder!

It was an enjoyable day on a beautiful river even if it wasn't as prolific as we were hoping.

Tough conditions with increasing winds/rain & lots of leaf debris. Fished the Wood section initially hoping it would be more sheltered (it wasn't!) and not a touch all morning between 2 of us. Moved onto the Meadow and 1 rod found a few chub while the other (i.e. me) remained biteless. First trip but we'll be back on a (hopefully) calmer day......fabulous location, even in the rain.

With rain on and off all day and extremely low water levels we struggled to get a bite and did not catch anything.

This was a new beat for us, and we decided to fish on the Pencraig side, which would benefit from some swim maintenance and perhaps a few more swims for anglers. The route directions were good and parking adequate.

A lovely overcast day, but bites were hard to come by, even though we managed a few. Most fish came to GB pellet and feeder with meat, a couple to pellet or maggot. Chub ranged up to around 4.8, the barbel were 4-5lb and the trout was a small sea trout!
