After wasting approximately 2 hours of the morning attempting to contact the bailiff and trying to find a stretch of water that both myself and my wife would consider accessible i.e. not completey overgrown with nettles, brambles etc. or a long walk we settled on a stretch of beat 3 left bank. Caught two Chub around the 2lb mark on bread flake, the first on a float (long trotting) and the 2nd on ledger. This stretch is quite shallow at the moment so I was unable to find any Barbel.

Slightly cooler day, river as low as I have seen it, fished the faster water at the top end of the beat and the middle section later in the day. Started on feed tack ticks and moved on to trotting using meat and sweetcorn caught 40 plus chub around 20 each most in the 1/2 lb to 2 lb size with 3 slightly bigger ones up to 3 lb The only barbel seen appeared to be spawning.
Given the conditions happy with our returns. A very pleasant day thank you.

On arrival discovered that vehicle access to the river requires driving around the LEFT hand-side of the field to get to the fishing hut parking area.
Caught plenty of chubb including some nice size fish and a nice size eel early on in the day.

Fish taken about even stevens on meat and bread, meat ledgerd and bread on the float. All save two taken from the faster water in the wooded area, hard to find a bites anywhere else. The other was a rather handsome Eel, if you like that sort of thing. The Barbel continue to be elusive at Fownhope.

Absolutely love this stretch of the Wye. It has everything from the fast paced shallows to deep gulleys
River very low and not in the best shape as it’s desperate for a downpour however free lined spam saw me trip up seven barbel biggest only around 6lb but great fun. Four chub also joined the party before the fishing slowed up during the afternoon.
Most kayaks were really accommodating and gave me plenty of space.
Fish taken from the top end of the beat

Evening session. River low and clear. Hot weather. Many timid bites difficult to hook. Feeder using pellets and luncheon meat.
