Rain the previous 2 days had created some extra pace on the river which encouraged the fish to feed. The problem was this had also released a lot of floating blanket weed which collected on lines making the fishing difficult. On the whole an excellent 2 days fishing in a great setting. I have never seen so many Kingfishers in one place. Barbel to 6.12. Chub to 3.8

I ruined what could have been a really good day by falling in the river.

Mostly overcast with sharp showers, water temp still showing 17. The river came up a foot overnight which would be good, yeah? Not in the morning it wasn't! Soooo much weed was coming down that the tip would start to go round from it as soon as the lead hit the bottom. As well as big clumps of silk weed over the lead washed from bankside, I pulled out strands of ranunculus up to 5 foot long! The one barbel (7lb) I had in the morning came to a PVA bag fished just into the flow. I kept feeding and also tried bumping various big baits through on a light bomb but even though I knew the fish were there I could add no more before we met the other 2 in the pub for lunch. We fished below the fence and PJ didn't have a bite.
On returning Steve dropped into my swim, Mr P into Paul's and Paul went up the top (still with me?). I had one 4lb barbel in the swim below Steve plus 2 good chub on float from above the fence. Mr P had 3 chub on the float. PJ had 2 chub and an 8lb barbel. Steve, who had a bad run up to the last week, benefitted from my feeding (4s, 10s and meat), the swim resting and a slow in the weed flow (my report, my excuses) had 12 barbel ( 7 proper ones between 4 and 8lb) plus 3 chub from MY swim. Inquest in head conducted, whilst there were a couple of things I missed, I rang the changes and couldn't have done much more. Well done to Steve and despite missing out on the red letter day my recent barbel run goes on.
