First time on this beat. It is very well maintained with plenty of swims which are well cut out and comfortable. It’s also an easy walk from the parking area. Unfortunately, we picked a bad day to be there. The river is painfully low at the moment (reading on the Ross gauge was around 0.17) and the little water which is in the river is crystal clear. It was possible to see the bottom of the river right the way across in all but a couple of swims. Added to this it was a day of bright sunshine and high temperatures. Even if they are not feeding I’d usually expect to spot the occasional Chub lurking but it was a challenge to spot very many fish today.

A long, hot and ultimately fruitless day of fishing was the result. We tried a lot of the swims and a range of tactics. Nothing at all though could induce a bite at all from a Chub or Barbel. The ‘others’ were three Eels.

A bit of a slow day - late arrival and bright sun probably didn’t help. Fish most active at dusk. Lost a second barbel when the line parted around a rock. All caught on the feeder.

Weather was hot and clear. As usual plenty of chub showing in the Church pool but limited action due to temperature. One barbel from the lower part of the Church pool. Tried a number of other areas but could not find other barbel.

A low and clear river and a day of bright sunshine is not normally conducive to a bumper catch. Sure enough Barbel were largely absent. There are a lot of Chub throughout this section though. Standing high on the bank it was possible to see very many fish cruising around. One angler fished the Lucky Stone whilst the other initially fished a little downstream of this initially before moving on to the lower field.

Tried a range of baits and tactics all resulting in Chub with many of these being between 4lb and 5lb. Only one Barbel was hooked but unfortunately not landed. The ‘others’ were three Roach which managed to take a 10mm pellet.
