Sign that river was polluted by agricultural sewage a few days before - why were we allowed to purchase a ticket without notice of this?
Fishing Passport Note: The Wye is extremely low at present and is in need of a flush through. However, no reports of pollution incidents were received in the days prior to this booking. On the day of the booking, 14 chub were caught on the beat immediately downstream, with 9 Barbel and 3 Chub the day before that, and 6 Barbel and 6 Chub two days before.

Wonderful days fishing in one of my most favourite beats on the beautiful River Wye.

3 Black Country blokes masquerading as anglers fished the bottom field from early morning for a handful of greedy chub, then moved (well, waddled, huffed and panted) up and over Cardiac Crest for the afternoon session. We fished the faster water in the wood (the bit by the stones) which resulted in 4 barbel and countless (let's say 60) chub on rolling meat.

(Top tip - if you're 50 plus with a figure like a telly tubby, don't eat a three course meal 30 minutes before yomping up a 90 degree hill carrying 25 kilos of meat, pellets and tackle).

I fished the bottom swim using various methods (trotting and on the bottom). I had 9 Barbel up to 8lb 6oz (7 around 6oz) with a few chub thrown in. The low water conditions and large amount of kayak traffic made it difficult, but it was funny watching people keep bashing to the same rock...I even rescued one of them that got trapped :D The bigger Barbel turned up after 18:00.

9 Barbel, 3 Chub
