Nothing caught, fished only for a few hours due to very low water levels and oppressive heat. Unfortunately one of the penalties of booking in advance, better value to join one of the local clubs. Very serious concerns over the condition of this beautiful river.

I picked a real “Phew what a scorcher” day to fish and was rewarded with a seemingly non-stop flow of boat traffic, with a good number of badly burnt oarsmen and women….ouch! This and the very low level of the river added up to a lot of chub between 8oz to 1lb plus a barbel around 6lb. Fished pellet on the hook and in the feeder, and moved around a lot as there were very few anglers on the beat.
Many thanks to the landowner and The Wye & Usk Foundation for a enjoyable day’s fishing. A stunning spot and will definitely return in the Autumn to more water and less boats!

Very hard fishing and water low, temp 30 degrees so hardly surprising we struggled between 3 of us to catch anything . Swims were difficult to get to, and there has been a fair bit of bank erosion making it dangerous in places now with under cut banks. The more accessible swims in the second field were not possible as the field has been booked out to the Caravan and Camping association.
Canoists a persistent problem, and some totally unaware of any code of conduct re pushing across to the other bank.
Hoping this will calm down later in the season and fish stocks haven't been affected.

The hottest day I've ever fished the Wye, expecting a bit of a struggle we arrived around 2.00pm and had a good walk along the whole of the beat to try to make decent swim selections, then fished from around 3.30pm. My long-time fishing friend opted for a nice comfortable swim near the car (he has had two knee replacements so I'll excuse him), whilst I opted for a swim that was barely accessible down a steep slope but obviously contained fish. The barbel decided to rip up the rule book and feed voraciously in the blazing sunshine - caught six in six casts between 3.30pm and 6.30pm. After that they backed off a bit but had another two before packing up at 8.30pm. It would have been possible to catch more but in the conditions the barbel needed a really good rest in the landing net before going home (and to be honest I was knackered too). By contrast, a blank for Mr. No-Knees in the comfy swim. I felt bad for him, but he did catch a double -figure barbel on my rod in my swim on our previous trip so I guess that's karma.
