On a dull, cold, windy day in May with drizzle to add; no fish were rising, no fly selection was attractive and no fish were caught! Furthermore no fish were seen. A disappointing first day back on a river for two 'elderly' anglers.
The beat map shows 'Access Points' to the river, but which added to our frustration as these features did not appear to be accessible.
Sorry to be so negative but after an enforced absence from fishing our expectations may have been too high!

Fished from 4pm until 8:30pm. Danica mayfly, Olive uprights and medium olives all coming off, with fish feeding on all 3, but mainly Danica mayfly. Strong down stream wind making things a little tricky. 2 trout netted, 1 released at the net! All fish between 13 to 15 inches and in good condition. All caught on sz 10 Nevamis mayfly pattern. Wonderful evenings fishing.

Fished from 3:30pm until 6pm, so only a short session. Sunshine and cloud, with a cold easterly wind. There was an occassional olive coming off during this time, but didnt observe any rising fish along the whole length of the beat; not unexpected given the time of year and horrible east wind. One 12 inch WBT caught from a pool in the wood at the top of the beat on a sz22 orange collar PTN, fished under a yarn indicator. Its been nearly 2 years since I fished here last, and lots has expectedly changed through winter storm/flood damage. Most worryingly though, all of the wonderful ranunculus above the foot bridge has completely disappeared to be replaced but horrible green weed. This is not a good sign, and I echo worries of pollution damage also noted in a recent catch report. I hope i am wrong, but fear im not. Despite this, it still remains a wonderful place to fish.

Nice afternoon/evening fishing. Two small wild brown trout on nymphs.

Several trees are down across the river in places following the recent storms. There was also a distinct smell of sewage over the faster water, which is concerning. I’m not convinced the river is in great health—and, if I’m honest, I haven’t felt great since fishing. Is this becoming the new normal? Feels like we’re at the point of needing a risk assessment just to avoid waterborne illness. Sad times.

On a brighter note, there’s a nesting dipper near the tunnel, which was lovely to see.

Had a recce - a couple of casts, but really not much happening - sunny bright afternoon, river clear and running slightly higher than normal, and cold. No fish seen, no hatches.

The river looked in decent condition, perhaps pushing through a little but I caught no fish and saw no signs that there were any there. Very little fly life. Maybe needs a couple of weeks to warm up.

On and off kind of day weather wise with a persistent strong wind for most of it! Good numbers of mayfly for most of the afternoon, water still very low and clear made for some challenging fishing, yet to see a coloured river this season! All fish caught on a Procter mayfly CDC.
