I fished the ripples, the glides, the deep pools, the weir and not a sign of a fish; no tugs at the nymph, not a rise to be seen and not even one dashing away from my boots; not in the cloudy morning or the sunny afternoon.
The beat looks as if it is perfect for brownies, treed almost all along but not too overhung, yet cover in paces for fish to hide. The water was cool, flowing well and slightly coloured, but not so much you couldn't see the bottom in 2 feet of water. The location is isolated and quiet with only the sheep for company - idyllic.
I've had 3 attempts at the Arrow in 3 years on different beats with the same zero result. I think I'll leave it to anglers more skilled than me.
PARKING BEWARE! When parking to the left of the yew tree trunk, beware a large stump, hidden by vegetation that will take you bumper off. Don't go too far forward.

Bright and sunny evening session, fished from 6-8pm. Very few rises so fished pheasant tail nymph. Took 7 trout but lost a few more due to using barbless hooks. Largest around 8 inches the rest averaged 3-6 inches. Enjoyable evening on a very well kept beat.

I did not catch any fish. I tried dry fly and nymphs for about five hours. I did not see any fish or any rises, so it was rather frustrating. The water was quite clear which was a surprise after so much rain and I thought the Arrow was a beautiful river - just the size I like, so I will be back!

This was my first try on this beat for three or four years and I'd forgotten what a wonderful stretch of river Titley is.

Arriving at around 10am there was still quite a push of water coming down the Arrow, carrying its greyish tinge. In the first pool above the bridge a small trout slashed at a klinkhammer. A larger one then took and let go of the goldhead a cast later in roughly the same spot. A few yards upstream came the first of my two fish of the day on nymph. Both were typically beautiful 9 inch Arrow trout: colourful and healthily plump.

There were a few medium sized upwings in the air and one or two sedge but I didn't see a rise all day. The riverbed is carpeted with caddis though. Lifting the stones reveals an enormous number of other invertebrates - a welcome sign of the Arrow's water quality.

By the time I'd reached the weir it was a blazing hot afternoon so I didn't bother trying below the bridge, even though I've had some good fish from that section. After an Easter weekend of high temperatures, it felt to me as though the Arrow was still to fully awaken from the otherwise cold spring. I'm sure things will be different in a week or two's time.

Superb weather again today , so was a real bit of excited delirium , when I tackled up about elevenish near the yew tree at the Titley beat . Had a wee chat with the nice old dear from Forge Farm cottage , who always answers the door with nothing on her feet , may be the Herefordshire cider doing that !!!!!!!!!Crossed the footbridge , water running at a nice height , and clear as gin , spot on me thought !!!!!!

A few March browns and grannom's already showing , things looked really really good . . . . As I initially fished a couple of small goldbead nymphs , they were working well in the clear water , and as I mooched upstream , it was three hours later that I got my first and only brownie , a fish of about six inches , tail of a deep pool , nowt so much as another touch , which was a shame , and no rises either . . . . . And by oneish there was a good trickle of LDO's and March browns showing , tantalisingly trouty on the water , but they left unscathed . . .

Only a feisty little minnow was the other wee fish too have a bash at the nymph , nice to see something in the Arrow has a bit of spirit !!!, I didn't actually see any trout movement at all even from the heigh banks with Polaroids on , not even one !!!! Still way too early for the main movement of the finny tribe in the Arrow me thinks , and one small fish saved the day . . .

Did see two mink walking back down the fields to my truck , they looked in good shape and really two , is two too many to be honest !!!!! But still good to see , , dippers , kingfishers , butterflies , yes things are rosey in the Arrow valley , shall give this beat threeweeks or so , before another bash , still superb being out in such Spring like weather , spot on !!!!!!!

Well looked the perfect conditions when I set off from the outskirts of Leominster , cool , 13 degrees and a slight breeze , thinking it would be a good day at the Titley beat of the River Arrow . . . .

Arrived at ten tackling up with the usual six foot , two weight , small gold head PTN , and mooched down to the footbridge , strewth the water was low low and clear as gin , although could do with a good flush through to get rid of algae etc etc . ..

Nothing really rising so worked the nymph in likely areas , had a nice little fish in one of the deep holes , about nine inches , lovely Arrow colours as always . . Quickly admired then released . .

Nice riffley stretch ahead so swapped to a parachute Adams , and had one small shot , about five inches in the faster broken water , again gorgeous colours , and released to get bigger !!!!!

Another forty yards or so up , had another small shot , ditto in size , again on the Parachute Adams , really scrappy little fish , and slipped back in . I continued prospecting with the Adams from then on , but no more takers , so had a wee chill out and enjoyed the scenery around here , superb !!!!!

Things seemed to slow down , and it was a while before I had any more takers , a nice fish about ten inches , three quarters of the way up the beat , in a deep pool , on the PTN , fought well above its weight , great stuff !!

Reaching the weir , not much water coming over the top , and I spooked a heron feeding !!! He seemed to have a job to take flight , as the wind had picked up by oneish . . . Was a fun four hours , four little Arrow beauties to the net , will be nice to see some more water to the river though , still that's all to come I guess , had a brief chat with the lady at the cottage where I parked under the yew tree , she assures me she'll give it a good trim , so that parking is made easier . . . .

Shall head too this charming beat next season , clocks ticking !!!!!! Roll on !!!!!!!

5 x trout 8-15 inches, Parachute Adams. A warm but cloudy day, rather humid. No trout showing in the deeper pools, but prospecting the faster runs brought some of the typical and very pretty 10 Arrow fish averaging 10 inches, plus one larger one as a very nice surprise.
