Started at midday and fished for 4 hours, initially using a dry Mayfly pattern with a hard foam body. Despite there being very little fly life I rose plenty of fish, some of which appeared to be of a good size, but was unable to hook any. Fearing the fish were rejecting my fly the second they touched it I changed to a Stimulator. I hooked and landed the first fish which came to it.
I have fished this beat for the past 8 years around May and June time, and believe the river bed, especially in the slower stretches, is becoming more coated in slimy weed. A real shame for a beautiful stretch of river.

Late afternoon session, a sporadic hatch, occasional rises in shallow smooth glides, spooked a couple of small fish when moving upstream. 1 lovely WBT and a couple of fish that didn't stick, couple of lightning takes my reflexes weren't quick enough for. Nice stretch, didn't make the top of the beat as I ran out of time. Kingfisher, Wagtails aplenty and Sand Martins nesting in a section of bank, evidence of otter thinning out the crayfish population. Great stuff, I was nymphing, a better angler fishing dries would have had more fish I'm sure.

A nice looking stretch of river, with easy access and relatively easy wading. However, although there were some mayfly and some olives hatching, there were no rising fish. I only fished for about one hour but did not get any takes, nor indeed see any fish.

One of those days I guess. Several tugs on the nymph but couldnt connect with any. Broke my rod D'oh! Steady trickle of upwings coming off most of the day but didn't see a sungle rise. Had a nice chat with an angler who was fishing the adjacent beat who had had better luck than me.

Long term fisherman, first time trout fishing. It wasn't pretty but bow and arrow and lobbing nymphs around resulted in 3 lovely WBT. Fished 6 hours exploring the whole beat, covering as much water as I could, 2 fish from drop offs next to streamier water, the largest from a deeper pool.
The brief period of sunshine had finished when I eventually turned up so it was cold and overcast. No rises or fish spotted. I can see why this kind of fishing isn't everyone's cup of tea, lost flies, rods in trees, unsteady footing on the slippery rocks, I came away exhausted! I will be trying further beats on the wild steams as I find the larger rivers intimidating. It would be lovely on a warmer spring or summers day, stealth and accurate casting will get results I'm sure.
