The Clettwr was in fine fettle, clear and at a good height. The fish were keen and 6 came to hand with others 'released at distance'! This small stream is a very special experience. The trout are small but very beautiful with bright red spots, red margined adipose and white edged fins. A delight for those keen on 'commando-style' fishing.

I defy any angler not to come away from this beat without a silly grin on their face. A truly unique experience. You'll lose track of time, have no idea of the weather up top and start expecting to see monkeys swinging by, it can be a hard climb but what a change to put your hand out for balance only for it to land on a cushion of lichen/moss so thick it could make carpet come back into fashion! Six wbt to hand and I only got just past the bridge. I always book this beat if I'm on the Wye system, love it, still got a silly grin now!

The wildest of the wild stream beats got the better of me today. Only 1 Trout caught and lost on a Para Adams.
The water seemed quite low and and most pools had a fish right in the tail who quickly scuttled off to warn his brethren of my approach. Only got to the footbridge and decided to take the easy route back to the car. Clouds of Black gnats around and the occasional upwing fly.

All seemed set for an excellent day - warm, some sun, good flow in the river, lots of varied flies out, birds singing, bluebells blooming etc. The trout were not told! Tried every method, saw only 4 rises and caught 2 of them at 9" but that was it. Frustrating (and humbling), but a nice day in the country. Two of the pools are now unfishable with fallen trees etc.

Good flow, decent hatch of various upwings. Plenty of recently fallen trees in river which have created some new pools and features.

Day 1 of 4 day trip. I had picked Cilieni as main fish of the day after concern on water levels, but I gave this beat a couple of hours later afternoon. Really wild fishing and I only managed to sneak up on one WBT by scaling the face of a water fall to the next pool! Tough fishing but a pleasant walk back to the car.

Nice day on the Clettwr, half a dozen fish to a GRHE and olive CDC. Bigest aroung 8". Lots of wood fallen in the steam giving it a very Canadian feel but making casts into some pools tricky. Downstream parts of the gorge can be hard going but well worth the effort.

Warm, overcast, river level very low.
Managed a trout of around 13" from a deeper pool but water a little too thin along most of the beat. Rose a couple of small trout in a narrow fast run but did not connect.

The river was low and clear, with little fly come off the water. Saw a few small fish in the deeper holes, but pretty quiet. A great place to pass a few hours.

What a beautiful location. Fished for 1 hour with nymph and dry but no sign of any fish, probably too low and clear. Must invest in good pair of waders and wading boots before returning as terrain is very challenging!
