I just popped over for a couple of hours on a warm, cloudy, and breezy afternoon. There was plenty of insect life but I didn't spot a fish anywhere which was a little disconcerting. Nevertheless I managed to tease a small brownie from the Weir which was returned.

This was my first visit to the venue and how lovely it is. The weather was very warm and humid with cloud and sunny intervals. I fished for a couple of hours and wished that I'd taken my waders due to the high banks and really heavy bank vegetation, plus the fact that Richard [Owner] has electric fencing on one side of the river bank above the weir. There were no fish to be seen and the deeper pools were cloudy but plenty of insect life and Damsels. I decided to fish on the bottom with a gold headed hare's ear nymph in the weir pool and took a 5 inch brown staying aware of the overhead power cables.
I had a break which turned into a long chat with the owner who mentioned that he'd noticed a decline in fish stocks but couldn't explain it and to be honest, I hadn't seen the amount of fish I would have expected.
I returned to the lower stretch and ended back at the weir again for another 2 small browns (about 3 inches)and then to my amazement I thought I saw an Otter pop out of the water! I scrambled for my mobile phone and behold managed to get 3 quick photo's of the animal in the weir just to make sure I wasn't going mad in my old age. At that point I decided to leave having had a great experience but I couldn't find the owner to explain why he was probably losing his fish! Perhaps someone in the WUF can pass on the info for me?

Disappointing as there was no real fly hatch. The water was coloured and running well as a result of the thunderstorms the previous night. I made contact with three fish and brought one of about 5 inches to hand. Is it me or are there less fish about in this part of the Arrow?

Nil return. Managed to rise five fish but sadly none of them stuck. Fished 3pm - 7pm. A trickle of mayflies coming off all day to add to the prolific fly life on this pretty bit of river. Nice to see the fallen willow at the bottom of the beat has been cleared away. Surprisingly absolutely nothing doing in the weir pool. Highlight of the evening was watching a kingfisher comprehensively out-fishing me.

A very cold day with rain, hail, snow, only managed to catch 2 small trout on heavy nymph. This is a very picturesque place to visit & the owner is always willing to converse. There has been a lot of bank clearance all along the beat which will make it easier to cast a dry fly when the weather warms up.
