First time small stream fishing and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are two trees down towards the top and bottom of the beat which limit access. Plenty of small trout having a go at my small dry fly with one to the net. The beat needs a working party and a chainsaw.

Just a couple of hours around lunchtime.
Saw a few fish rising as I walked to the bottom of the beat, so stuck with dries.
Hooked 4 but did not manage to land them.
Also fished the stretch at Poston Mill on Saturday, again a few fish rising, managed to land 2.

Quick visit to Abbey Dore. No fish seen and none caught. The blockage at the top of the beat is getting bigger, doubt that any fish could get through it if they wanted to.

River at 0.4 and falling on Peterchurch gauge. Visibility about 2'. Arrived at 10.30 with the sun shining, but still chilly in the wind. No fish, but did spook a large trout in the tail of one pool. Tried nymphs in the deep pools, and duo in the shallower areas. Lots of activity on the adjacent range, with plenty of gunfire. Also an RAF Hawk making multiple passes, might have something to do with the elaborate drone they had flying about.

Block booked the day but bumped into another angler that had also been allowed to book the day in the car park. Day worked out alright but disappointing that the system does not work as expected. Beat is a challenge with lots of over hanging trees and some deep pools. Bring your bow and arrow cast and heavy nymphs.

Fishing Passport Note : This was the only booking taken this day. An Order Confirmation email is proof of booking and should be taken on the day of fishing.

River at 0.38 falling on the Peterchurch gauge. Overcast with a gusty wind. Fished a ptn below a klinkhammer through the whole beat, except for the deep pools where I resorted to a single heavy nymph, without success.
1 grayling at 11 inches, 2 trout at 6 and 8 inches. All caught on the ptn, didn't see a single fish rise.
Did bounce another couple of fish.

River 0.4 at Peterchurch falling slowly, still holding some colour after last week's rain. First time on this beat, although I have fished the Dore a lot this year, up at Poston Mill. Access is generally very good, only having to get out 2 or 3 times to get round the deeper pools, and 1 obstacle at the top of the beat which completely blocks the river. Fished the duo for most of time, reverting to a single nymph for the deeper pools. Grayling at 8in caught on the single nymph, both trout 10in taken on the dry. Missed a good few takes on both, with a couple of fish bumped off.

I note that AS had fished Tuesday, but others had definitely been there too, as there were 4 different fresh sets of boot prints in the mud, all in places that would have been underwater last weekend.
