Dore was really low and gin clear. Walked the beat and didn't spot any fish. Fished some of the deeper pools but nothing doing. Note that this beat is really overgrown, and casting is near impossible, even roll casts difficult in most places. A French leader could do the trick, but I wouldn't go anywhere near this beat between April - October, and it is likely to be even more overgrown.

Just a few hours for me on this short beat. Fished from 9am to 12.30. Whole beat was covered twice. Very slow to start, just 1 grayling lost. Stream is very cold and shaded so not great for an early start! 2nd run through managed 2 graying both around 9 inch, 1 trout 12 inch, 1 minnow, mouth hooked! Fished with an Air-lok indicator from Fishtec & 2 x flies. Point being a heavy jig nymph. All fish took size 14 copper john on dropper. Missed and pricked a few. Hard going, as was casting even without leaves to contend with! Beat is particularly narrow and over grown, frustrating at times. No sign of the large grayling shoals I spotted in summer - they seem to have vanished. This was my reason for revisiting the beat.

Arrived at Abbey Dore to weak sunshine with the river surprisingly clear despite overnight rain. Starting at the bottom of the beat I was encouraged to see a couple of rises and hooked a reasonable one to a dry Grayling Fiddler, only to lose it. The river was starting to cloud with field wash and I saw no more rises. There were no takers to a goldhead nymph or the dry, and I was rained off after an hour and a quarter, by which time the river was quite coloured. Not an easy beat to fish, with care needed in wading, and a rod over 7 ft. would be a nuisance, but a nice little bit of water that merits a second visit.

An attractive stretch of fishing but bank access very difficult in high summer because of dense growth. Fish free rising but missed several before a 3/4 lb fish hung on to the pheasant tail a little too long.

Just a couple of hours after barbel fishing on the Wye earlier that day. This beat does what it says on the tin - great for a short session. I fished it all and then a few of the lower pools again in 2.5 hours. Not an ideal afternoon it was 23 degrees and bright. Water almost stagnant in most of the pools, fish very nervy. Landed 5 small trout 6 - 10 inches all on the klink and dink duo. Lost a few, and spooked numerous grayling in the deeper pools, some in 15/16 inch size class. Despite dropping nymphs on their noses they simply were not feeding... will be back in the autumn to have another go!

Turned up late morning and the beat had just been fished, but as I hadn't seen it before decided to at least have a walk down. Only fished a couple of the pools, didn't see any fish rising/moving, but did manage a cracking Grayling of about 16" on a czech nymph from under an overhanging tree at the neck of a deep pool. Left after that but will be back.

Lovely stretch of challenging water ideal for stalking the wild Brownies. Stealth and casting skill being the order of the day, sight fishing and sending your fly over the trout provided some patient sport but this was rewarded with 16 fine brownies ranging from 6" to 10" . Last fish of the day took to 1.5hrs of casting and recasting but it did eventually fall to my 20th fly type!!! Great day out with plenty of hatches, 90% of the fish caught on Grey Wulf the others falling to CDC type sedge in the late evening sunshine.

Couple of hours fishing on abbey dore. all trout came to mayfly dunn with beadhead nymph klink and dink .5-6 to nymph the rest to mayfly. All about 9 inches with a couple about 12 inches. Both grayling took beadhead in the deeper runs largest 14 inches the other 8 inches. Water levels quite low now. Fair few mayfly peeling off by 1pm and trout locked onto them instantly even with the hoards of spinners on the water.

Book the beat for the day but only planned on fishing the evening. River level was low but fish still showing taking off the surface in the pool. Size 18 black klinkhammer. Nice beat will be returning...
