After the last visit I was prepared for the jungle. Fished Nymphs and then moved on to Klink n Dink. All fish bar 1 taken on Nymphs, 4 of which on the dink.
This beat is hard going, even on the bits with no trees fallen across the river as you have to get in and out due to the depth of many pools. The Balsam was 10ft tall in places and got stung to death by the 6ft nettles. The land owner has cut the grass around the top couple of fields but much work is needed to improve the access, the beat has some great potential.
Saw a beaty of about 2lb but I lined her on second attempt at covering her and she dropped in to the deep pool.

A nice grayling of about 10oz on a pink tag. All in all a very tiring day.

A bit of a change this morning , needed a quick brownie fix, so opted for the Monkland beat ,knowing it's a bit of a jungle , turned up at about half nine , only had couple of hours so cracked on !! Nothing much happening on the slower water , but using the mandatory catapult casts , managed three nice feisty fish this morning!!!

The one side is much more fishable than the other once you get passed the weir, I fish the section nearest to the Leominster side, did see some splashy rises , and out off the three had one on a Parachute Adam's, the other two on a tiny tungsten nymph, with hot orange head !!

A real workout during the two and a half hours I was there, could do with a good bit of attention here , Shame really, as it's got scope to be cracking !!!

A fun ,but quick morning, three Arrow beauties to the net , worked up a bit of a sweat walking back to the truck!!! Still good fun though as always . . . . .

Fished the first pool near parking and had 1 fish each then gave up as the access was terrible, needs alot of work to but has potential to be a great fishery.

Only fished the mill race section from the bank which is more open. River running clean, lots of insect life. Few fish rose all day - about 6 splashes of small fish plus 2 big rolling boils of a larger fish. Using tenkara rod and caught the one trout on small butcher nymph - nice fish 10" about 8 oz which I took although felt somewhat guilty doing so! Much of the river very over grown and difficult to get down into - I am ambivalent about wading the Arrow as my experience of the river elsewhere is that the fish are very easily spooked. Also wading on mixed silt and gravel does do some damage to the habitat of the river bed.

My first visit to this beat and probably my last as it is so difficult to wade what with low trees, deep pools and high banks not to mention the overgrown banks. I had very little time on the water but fished the first narrow section from the bank and took a 6" Brownie on a size 14 Hackled Brown Midge.

Saturday was the first lovely day we have had this year, it was great to be out in such a nice area enjoying a bit of sun.
I've never fished any of the rivers round this area so was reliant on the description from the website to choose a location.
Unfortunately the river was in flood and virtually unfishable, the surrounding fields had standing water which was flowing in to the river and adding to the lovely brown colour. The current was so strong that wading was impossible except on the inside of 2 bends. Any fish in the river remain unbothered by our limited efforts!
Sadly the beat is in need of a lot of work to remove fallen and overgrown trees and quite big build ups of winter flood debris which in a couple of places looked like beaver dams.
We persisted for about 5 hours but never saw any sign of a fish.
The map indicates that a sign is at the top of the beat, I think we walked a long way past that point as there was nothing obvious but on the way back there is a sign on the BACK of a fence between the 2 weirs which is only about a third of the way up the beat.
A pleasant day for a yomp along a river bank, I would be interested to see the river in good condition one day when i'm back in the area.

Got to the water, at first thought it looked not bad. Dropped into water just above first Weir, could only go up about 50 yards and water got to deep and dark, went back clambered out tried going up through the wood, head high undergrowth, hugely over grown, just couldnt get to the water, turned round and went back, left and went to eardisland, nothing caught a couple a fish seen, racing away from me.

First time on this beat and I'm beginning to learn that ones first visit to a small stream needs to more about reconnaissance than fishing. Locating access points and finding likely fish-holding water (hoping the two are not too far apart) means subsequent visits can be more targeted. Today I found a few rising fish but couldn't tempt them so let's see if my approach works next time.
