Again frustratingly pokey and coloured when I bowled up at the Edw @ Cregrina,.... still needs a good three days to bring it down ..... the weekend it may be workable !!! Thankfully my beloved Elan Valley opens tommorrow.... yeesssssssssssss !! So I'll leave the wild streams a couple of weeks !! I always wonder why the reservoirs don't open on the 3 march too !!! The Teifi Pools do, and as the crow flies literally a couple of miles over the next series of mountains from the top of Claerwen Reservoir ..... weird !!!! But there we go ......
The fishing was tricky, as there's bedrock here, and visibility wasn't fantastic either ... tight lining the heads of pools produced four small fish, between eight and nine inches, nothing really decent .... There are some clonkers in the Edw system , all the way up at the top of Hundred House ..... Anyway, a team of two tungsten nymphs produced the goods ..... good fun .... but I always take a surreptitious approach here!! Fishing wild places on your own ... take care folks, one slip and your ankle is gone ......
The kingfisher was up and down twice ... nice to see ... Again access in heigh water ... barbed wire is literally everywhere ,no little gates for anglers , shame really!!... keep your eyes well peeled folks barbed wire !!!!! It's even in two metre sectionS snd snall cut of rusty bits, buried in the leaf litter !!! That catching your expensive Simms or Orvis waders and it's a nice steady rip and a careful session with the aquasure .... lol !! That ripping snagging sound .... eeeeeekkkkk almost as bad as the crunching sound on a car bumper .... almost !!! Ha Ha ha ....
Well, a fun couple of hours , only up to the Bridge, got out , had a mug from my flask.... and dwelled on better dry fly days ahead ..... its imminent folks .... Right, time for a Baileys coffee then pack my wet fly boxes for tommorrows sortie in the Elenydd......

A superb day !!! Well four hours late afternoon, midday till fourish.... gets home, logged on to the fishing passport ... and even after all these years it baffles me, one report showing from friday and a couple from Sunday.... why aren't the rest shown ??? So we can see what's been fished and how its doing etc etc .... on various beats and the wild streams .... Anyway , not really a gripe more bemused to be honest, if three are displayed, may as well enter all submissions from Thursday onwards!!!!
Fishing was superb this afternoon, river like very weak tea, but the Edw fish still hammered a Para pheasant tail, and I did change to a cdc and elk, equally successful ... a good few on and off today, but twelve made it to the net ..... sizes from six to eleven inches or so !!! Lovely feisty fish and cracking splashy rises to the dry fly ..... just fabulous.... can't get enough of it !!!
Fished just shy of the farm.... just a nice slow session.... well, it had to be, wading was tricky as i couldn't see the river bed .... if you don't know this beat, don't go two days after rainfall .... its strewn with slippy bedrock .... fortunately I know where the worst areas are !!! ..... In two days time it'll be bang on, that said, its great to catch trout so close, as they can't see you .... a lovely session on one of my favourites, try another stream tommorrow, happy days .......

Was lovely turning up at a favourite beat at half eight , only fished the two hours as had a pressing meeting in Builth later on ..... murky when I tackled up, my lovely little six foot two weight rod .........
I know from past experience fish are still prepared to smash dries in a coloured river here, so opted for my favourites for here, in size eighteen .....
Good fun from the off, nothing big today in a tally of seven , three long range releases also, slippy on the barbless hooks today !!! Was cool when I parked up , reading ten degrees in my truck but the fog soon lifted, with some upwings on the go and the odd sedge ...... fish smashing the dry in prospected fishy places, and just had the one riser .... lovely confident hit to my fly !!!
Must admit getting a bit of a jungle here, I cut out into the field just a hundred yards up from the Bridge..... resembling Belize up there!!! May give the Cammarch or another Edw beat a bash early bells tommorrow, lovely being on the streams after a month off them, enjoying the mountain llyns and reservoirs around my local patch in Rhayader .... a really pleasant two hours on a cracking little technical beat..... Happy days!!!!!

Despite fears there was enough water to move the fish. All fish between 6-8”. Stream needs clearing.

Decidedly tricky this afternoon , fished between three and quarter past six... did from the brook entrance in to Edw up to the Glanedw Farm ...
Lots of spent mayfly spinners about by five .... a warmer afternoon than yesterday ...but boy it was hard going above the bridge, foot depth of water in places and rising fish ,had a couple on and quickly off ... ... just one of those days to be honest ...
Four made it to the net , small feisty fish that were all risers, between six and eight inches in size ... hard earned with mega slow wading..... a grey Wulff did the business....... but the profile of the spent spinner has to be just right in the slower water to be taken ..... still a really fun session but boy has it grown a lot above the bridge .... wowser, really messy stuff and a lot of pools out of action cause of overhanging branches .... I have emailed WUF about the winter work parties again ... tidy up these wild streams..... lots are close to unfishable now .... escley, Monkland...Litton in places ....perhaps a permit holders forum maybe, find out who's free on a set date , bring lopers hand saws, secateurs and give these streams a dam good tidy up !!!! They deserve a bit of tlc .....
Packed up at quarter past six , still muggy but a really pleasant three hours .... seemed quiet downstream of the bridge, really odd, only picked uo the one fish there .... the pool heads were quite as a mouse ... even a small para Iron Blue didn't get a response on a lot of the pools..... almost seemed as though it may have had an angler through earlier possibly .. oh well , still good fun and managed a few... fun watching spent spinners come down a run and little trout reacting to them !!..... home time and a good water of the pots and tubs I think ...... May give the Elan Valley an early one tomorrow!!! Lifes good hey ........

Beautiful afternoon fishing. Water getting low now and lots of fallen trees. Three fish to an Adams from faster water at head of pools. Several long releases and endless flashy rises. Great fun.

Just a quick shimmy between the brook entrance into the Edw and the Bridge this afternoon.... been hectic with taking clients out on the reservoirs and rivers , so after some fitness this morning was nice to bimble off and park up at two by the bridge ..... Great fun as always here .......
She did seem a bit messy to be honest, a good winter haircut is in order I think here.... and I only fished to the bridge , finishing today at quarter past four ....
Tiny Para dries getting smashed... two goooooooood fish in the tally today well over twelve inches , lovely scrap on the six foot rod ...
Tis a beat you need to be careful on and wade carefully on that bedrock but the tout do love the plunge pools and a well presented dry is deadly here .... even in the slow deep glides they seem prepared to smash it !!! A lively couple of hours ... pretty hectic to be fair and great sport ... went sort of overcast for an hour but still hot .... I think about 21 degrees today.... river does need a splash of rain ... Thoroughly enjoyed the session .... off out with two clients again in a couple of days in the Elan Valley .... can't wait ....
Another fun afternoon on the Edw , sorted .... back to The Ponderosa dekit and a scoop at The Crown In town I think ..... just to round off a nice day !!!!
