I fished bits of Upper Longtown and the Olchon. Despite the rain, both were quite low. The Olchon was affected by work on the bank and someone wheeling their barrow into the stream to clean it. The bottom field of Upper Longtown was well protected by barbed wire. Despite all this I had five fish which, added together, may have been takeable. They all came to a Klinkhammer while a nymph was ignored. Definitely beats for the younger angler.

Sunny day on the river. Water very low, but still some nice little pools. Rose plenty of fish on the dry, and dropped a couple of surprisingly solid brownies for such a small stream. Two came to hand, around 8 inches or so. Parachute adams and elk hair caddis did the work. Lovely little stream for some 3wt action.

Best fish measured just under 15" - a cracker - and I could have had many more if I had only crouched lower....!

9 x trout 6-13 inches, several 12 inch fish, on Rusty Klinkhammer. I probably missed as many again. Despite the rain and a tinge of colour in the water, these streams haven't risen, so fish still very spooky in low pools and the bed of the stream still covered with slime. A windy day, so fish were interested in whatever was blowing out of the trees.

Lovely few hours on my idea of a true wild stream. Deep pools with big fish. Both caught on a rusty klinkhammer, missed numerous others. Will be back to try again.... My casting has certainly improved, only caught 1 tree today!

Our second day fishing under the expert guidance of Oliver Burch. A very different beat from our previous day on Llynfi Dulas. Our approach was again to use one rod dry fly and another with a nymph/dry duo, New Zealand style. Weather was cloudy with some sunny spells.
Water levels were better after some overnight rain with the water also slightly clouded. The fish were feeding with relative confidence and both methods produced results. A stealthy approach was still an absolute must along with the all important first cast. Plenty of fish seen, some caught, many missed or lost due to our own clumsiness. Some truly enchanting pools to fish with a good few trout rising. Some late mayfly were seen but enough to be called a hatch.
Thanks again for a wonderfully enjoyable day with our guide. Many thanks again to Mr Burch for sharing his excellent company and boundless knowledge. We shall return.

Fished from about 14.00 to 17.00. Weather warm with light drizzle to heavy downpours. Water level appeared to be low. First time fly fishing for about 25 years, so was not expecting to catch anything. Imagine my surprise when I caught a lovely brown trout 9"/10". Apart from that did not see many other fish and not many flies about. Thoroughly enjoyed my time, Thanks to the booking office staff. I will certainly be back soon [not another 25 years].

9 x trout 6-10 inches, Rusty Klinkhammer. Hot and still, the mayfly just about over and very little was rising today - a matter of prospecting in the likely places to provoke rises. One much larger fish lost just at the net.
