Water very low and crystal clear. Only managed one fish, but, it was a stocky 12" wbt taken in a gold head hares ear in fast water - this will probably be my best wild stream fish of the year!

My first time on this lovely stretch. I fished the whole beat but didn't see or touch a fish. The middle pools in the steeper section over the pancake bedrock are fantastic and feel like (despite the evidence of my return) that a fish should be taking every time. I'm guessing this stretch improves when there is more water around. Although perhaps I need to work on my stealthy approach to the tiny pools.
Although I saw no action, this was a great way to spend an hour or so. The water was much clearer than on the Honddu which I fished in the morning and there was a lot less farm detritus on the banks.
I'll definitely be back to try again.

I chose one of the more wetter days of the week with clouds and mist hanging over the small valley where the Upper Grywne Fawr runs through. Nice little beat with plenty of small pools and fast streams where I mostly tried the nymph and a small green gold head streamer but no luck between 11am and 1pm. The weather didn't improved much so I didn't bother going back for the evening. The trees are really hanging over the water so a '7' or '8' should handle this better then my 10#5 Hardy rod. Beginners in this part of the UK like me are better of fishing in the Usk or Wye or one of the middle Wales rivers. Will have another try in July and read some of the feedback forms from the other enthusiasts where the fish are more easy to trick.
