The river has benefited from recent rains, still holding a bit of water with a tint of colour. Perfect for nymphing. 20 fish between 2 of us in a late afternoon session fishing from just below the bridge up to the end of beat. The beat is huge and there are some fantastic pools here. Fish to 1.5lb all in great condition. Access and parking in the farm yard is good.

A properly authentic fishing experience & lovely river.

River very low & fish extremely spooky, plenty of them though!

Two bites on nymphs but due to too much slack in the line from casting from an awkward position - didn’t set the hook. Several follows on a streamer stripped through the bigger pools.

no fish caught but one of the better blank days!

I sadly had to leave before the magic hour when I expect they would start rising- but there were plenty of deep fast pools with flashes of gold telling me that fish were feeding through the day.

Arrived at Pontgwilym farm to park up in farmyard that is mentioned on map, only to be informed by famer that the yard is full of farming machinery so unable to park there. The field that was to take me to the river was full of long horn bulls so unable to cross the field to Honddu river, eventually manage to get to the river with the help of a farm hand who I followed in my car, finally arrived at the river bridge ready to fish only to find out there's no access to river and bank fishing only was impossible to achieve due to fence and trees along the bank for the entire 1.5 mile stretch. A totally wasted journey I won't be back again.

4 x trout 8-10 inches, Goldbead Hare's Ear nymph. Pretty fat little trout. I saw only one fish rise, but got him with the nymph. I only did the lower bit, bottom to the road bridge, before rain came in. Access to this one is now a little complicated. Farming folk suggested parking in the farmyard - which is a sea of mud at the moment - is best done on the left, on the piece of hard standing between the two cow sheds on the left side. From there the track down to the river leads through one field full of frisky cows defensive of new calves - "keep an eye on them," said farming folk - and another field with a long-horned bull - " keep an eye on HIM" said farming folk. I do appreciate this agricultural advice no end, I must say. So I kept an eye.

Booking office note: Thanks for the update, we'll be sure to include that update in the beat info...

3 hrs spent on this beat, 2 of which were needed to access any likely water. No fly life and no sign of any fish, a disappointing reunion with a stream I had fun with some years back.

First time back to this rocky river for a long time, running fast and clear on a cool grey day. Tricky wading, the steep banks and deep runs meant I had to cross the river a few times which was hairy in this current. Trickle of olives most of the day but nothing rising. Tempted 2 well marked and conditioned 11 inchers on a tung head GRHE, but saw nothing else. Still hugging the bottom, I guess.
Met the farmer in the new parking area, he told me the best place - most of his cattle and sheep are still in the sheds, so the yards are a sea of mud - we all hope for the warmer weather!

Quite a warm day at last, even in the river valley, and not much wind! Olives and small flies hatching most of the day, enough to at last interest the trout, although they stopped at about 2pm. Returned 3 trout, all on Para Adams in the glides, 2 at 8" and one cracker at 12".
All in great condition as well.

No fish caught, weather still very cold. A beautiful stream, fished from the bottom of the beat back to the road but saw no fish or hatching insects. Will return later in the season.
