Good to be back here as its been a while and good also to see it when its got a few inches of extra water on it over the summer lows (0.220m on the Llandewi gauge today and falling ) and with some colour but not too much. Lovely.
A few stonefly and sedge knocking about in the air and some nice grayling looking rises here and there made me stick with the dry (such a lovely day for it!) but could only bring up trout sadly . A couple of nice decent fish netted and in superb, bright and fit condition so didnt feel too guilty and horsed them in pretty quick and back away too.
Lots of small fish having a go at the dry (cdc sedge) and dont know what species but that can only be good for the future . Hopefully anyway...
Seems the farmer has redone the barbed wire fencing in the mid section since I last went so is a bit tricky along there gaining access so I will be taking a piece of the pipe insulating foam along next time to save the waders!

Bright warm day, 0.2m on Llanddewi gauge. 2 parr picked up on nymphs from the faster sections of water, a couple of better sized brown trout hooked but lost. Late afternoon as it was getting a little darker landed a ~13" Grayling and 14" brown trout from the head of a fairly slow run with a lot of tree cover. Both fish on an olive dubbed body, bead-headed nymph with a soft hackle (size 16 hook with 2.8mm bead). Fished 3'-4' under a NZ style indicator.

River dropping after heavy rain earlier in the week, around 0.3 - 0.32 m on Llanddewi gauge. Bit of colour in the water, would guess around 18"-24" visibility. Fished from about 10 am to 5 pm, and covered the bottom half of the beat. Quite a mixed bag weather-wise, from bright sunshine to heavy showers.

2 anglers, fished with nymphs including euro rig and NZ style indicator. 7 brown trout between us and 3 hooked but not landed, all around 9" - 12". Fish hooked on typical patterns; perdigons, soft hackled beaded nymphs, beaded hares ears... mostly 3mm tungsten beads.

The first time we have fished this beat and thoroughly enjoyed it. Word of warning that we lost a fair few flies with snags in the water that we couldn't see in these conditions.

Only fished for a couple of hours, in the afternoon, more in hope than in expectation due to the lack of rain for the last 6 weeks. River was indeed low with little flown- hopefully the rains forecast for this week will actually occur and improve both water temperature and flow. The only fish seen were fry, and the only interest that I could muster was from fish too small to take my size 20 tupps fished dry.

Weather partly cloudy with a very light breeze, turning cloudy and still on the afternoon. River at the lowest level I've ever seen it, hardly any flow at all.

All fish taken on a klinkhammer, sizes between 6 - 12 inches.

Weather mixed, sunshine early in the day with light winds and cloudy with a stiff breeze on the afternoon. River looking good at a reasonable level.

We struggled today, nothing on nymphs and only the occasional rise to the dry. My fishing partner MB did the best today taking 3 to my 1, mostly taken on a hopper type fly.

Great beat. Covered most of the main beat with very little showing. There were a few hatches coming off but very little action from the fish. Two trout caught on a nymph.

Well first session out really since the move to Rhayader ... now bang in the thick of some awesome fly fishing for wild brownies, from all the reservoirs and mountain llyns to the feeder streams and of course the proximity of a lot of the wild streams ...

I did a recce of the Llanidloes stretch of the Upper Severn a couple of days ago , concerning levels for February and to be honest the Ithon wasn't any better !!!! Low and running clear, but on a fairly decent section , managed three shots , one after another pretty much, all feisty for their five inches !! Nothing decent showing in the three hours I was there between ten and one ....

Three good constant days rain would be just the ticket .... its worrying for the start of the brownie season if I'm honest ... the Cambrian catchment streams should be pokey this time of year ...the Elan dams are all full , including Claerwen .... that's something I guess !! I'll head to one of my favourites on season start , see how the mop flops .... clients have been ringing me and emailing for river bookings which is nice but I fear with our " new" climate a mountain Llyn early bells may be the answer to some sport .... anyway on a high note , a lovely day , bit parky with the North wind , and nice to get some on the PTN , albeit tiny , cest la vie that's fishing hey ......
