Just had a couple of hours to spare, but unfortunately I got my timing wrong as the overnight/early morning rain had raised the level sufficiently to colour the water up.
One tree down on the lower section and one leaning precariously just upstream of this one. Good to be out but no takes.

Coldest day of the year? Spent the first two hours clearing ice from the guides. Really bright sun,low in the sky and behind me all day causing unavoidable long shadows, water crystal clear. Fished tungsten bead nymphs...first fish a decent sized trout 15" or so and then only one small 9" grayling...couldn't locate the shoal though. Good to be out again!

Could only connect with trout on this extremely cold day. Snow on the ground and river running with a good pace. Looking at river levels, this beat seemed the only one just about fishable. The few trout to hand all took pink beadhead body quilled fly on the point bouncing bottom. No grayling today, maybe the floods now the cold snap has put them down for a few days. The flow was strong and nearly knocked me off my feet on more than one occasion and with the water temps low not advisable to take a dunking. Still a lovely stretch of water which, come April should fish extremely well.

Level dropping and clear but still with a bit of pace (0.3m on the gauge). Had a couple of hours trotting on the mid section and caught an 8" OOS trout plus a smaller one with a 10" grayling coming just before I packed up. A particular concern is the evidence of predators, as now I have witnessed an otter, cormorants, and a family of goosanders this year. The dippers, however, are a sight to behold.

Well it was Friday the 13th... and storm Abigail was blowing through... and I watched the gauge at Llandewi regularly ..water wasn't rising!
Inside I knew it was not the day to go but the Wish to Fish got the better of me! Ithon was 0.51 metres on the EA gauge and now I know that's too deep and too fast to wade..unless you are a giraffe!...........zero fish caught, seen or heard.

Challenging weather conditions....rained all day with strongish winds thankfully from the right direction. Fished from 10 till 3, firstly with nymphs but with no takes whatsoever.. changed to dry flies despite the rain and proceeded to take 7 voracious trout all on size 16 Adams Klinkhammer from 10-14". No sign of any grayling whatsoever despite all my efforts. I must have disturbed a massive tawny owl which flew from a hole in a tree surprisingly close to the water level.Only managed to fish two thirds of the beat.

The three grayling came from a deep pool at the start of the beat all about 13 inches, the other was a salmon parr of which there were hundreds in the runs at the bottom of the beat. there were a few grayling with them but decided to move on as the salmon parr were eager for my nymphs. this beat is a beauty, plenty of trout and several heavy fish. Of the 15 trout brought to hand ten were well over 12 inches 2 were about 16 inches and I lost a belter of about 18 inches. Sadly the trout on this day reacted to the nymph far quicker than the grayling.. any one who loves there wild streams this one really is a cracking piece of water

Fished lower fields pm. Lovely afternoon with river slightly coloured and falling after previous day's rain. Bank newly fenced with some good access points - thanks. 1 tiny parr and 4 well-conditioned trout of about 9 inches on nymphs. I'm catching more parr than ever - all over - good sign! Thanks to W & U and owners for this lovely stretch. Wish there was a more direct way we could show our appreciation.................... I attended the November excursion, last year, with my wife to prove I really do go fishing on my escape days! Met some landowners there and wish there could be more of this. How about a W & U Association with other 'socials'?
