I started fishing the brook around 8am, had a couple of breaks but kept going until 1.30pm. Had a lovely morning, it's a beautiful little stream, but didn't catch any fish. Didn't see any either: I saw a single fry in the margins, and saw one fish rising near the stone bridge (couldn't tempt it! not sure if it was a trout or not) ... so unfortunately didn't catch a single one.
I fished from Cwm Farm, from as far downstream as I could manage (very friendly farmer by the way), it was overgrown after 1/2 mile or so, so I started fishing back upstream to the stone bridge.
I think the water may have been too low and clear? But I'm no expert, this is only the second time I've fly fished a river - so it could be just that I'm not doing the right stuff, or I scared them off by wading badly (although I tried to stay out of the water as much as possible).
(P.S. Allyson, thanks for your help with booking and getting me in touch with Tony Rees, I appreciate it). Greg

Fished pontsarn up, casting tricky but the bow and arrow cast of a small gold head yielded two small fish. Fish ultra spooky in very clear water.

Fished the top 1/4 of the gorge, and 1/4 mike up from Pontsarn. Despite it looking like the dishonest place on earth, I think that upstream of Pontsarn may well fish better than the gorge, partly due to the Fact that it's really tricky to get into a casting spot without spooking the fish.
That said, took three fingerlings to a small gold head, all fished with a longish leader to avoid spooking. Great morning session, there are plenty of fish there to be had.
I went on the Merthyr Tydfil angling association Facebook page to ask about patterns and spots and I have to say that they were amazing - Gavin Jehu (club secretary), Mostyn Reynolds, Ceri Thomas and Anthony Rees were all hugely helpful. Certainly one of the friendliest clubs I've encountered.

I started fishing from Parking no 3, the stream was lovely with lots of features. Casting was difficult with overhanging branches and I would highly recommend using a wading staff or studs if anyone intends to wade as the rocks were extremely slippery. There are couple of high cliffs especially on the other side of the bridge on Parking no 3 which can be dangerous if not been careful. I didn't manage to fish all the stretch as I had limited time to fish but I will be coming back soon. I caught a lovely brownie on the blue pool using Czech nymphing with my own tied nymph.
