Approximately 900 metres of single right bank fly fishing on the river Tees near Mickleton village, for brown trout, grayling and salmon.
The fishing has easy access and plenty of variety, including, runs, riffles and some deeper holding pools. This beat is very easy to fish, it is an open beat and there are very few trees or other obstacles. Wading is simple, but staff is always advisable.
This beat offers incredible fly water for trout, grayling and salmon during a spate, with a mixture of waters types and some named salmon pools.
The Mickleton Island water fishes exceptionally well on the fly for trout, and faultless methods include traditional north country spiders, dry flies, and up or down stream nymphing. Streamers are also a noted method. Regarding salmon, fishing during a spate will increase your chances. Dark red shrimp patterns on low water doubles or copper tubes and coneheads being the order of the day. Sunray shadows and hitch flies can also be effective. Fishing with a 9ft or 9ft6in line rating #4 or #5 is the perfect choice of rod for trout, and for salmon, a 10ft 7wt or a 12ft/13ft double handed rod will be ideal.
