300 yards of left bank fishing on the middle/lower Wye located in the village of Lydbrook, between Ross on Wye and Monmouth. The Wyebank fishery is ideal for a few hours salmon fly fishing for one rod or a day’s coarse fishing for one or two anglers. Below the island the pace quickens into a long run known as the Wyebank run where a number of cribs concentrate the water, providing lies for salmon, including the Wyebank crib, lower crib and boat rock. Between the cribs is the Wharf Pool, a mid river hole with smooth bedrock floor. This is excellent grilse water when conditions are right. Fly fishing for trout has improved in recent years, and all are wild fish - there has been no stocking in this part of the river Wye for many years. Grayling are sometimes present for autumn fishing.
Access to the river is excellent with nearby parking and a well maintained river bank. The flow is quite fast for this part of the Wye so for coarse anglers, the barbel and dace fishing is particularly good. Chub fishing can be superb with specimens to 5 and 6lb.
All the usual Wye fish species are present however. Combined with the Courtfield beat just upstream, this is a superb location for 5 or 6 anglers to fish together. Courtfield is bookable separately.
Half price evening tickets for coarse rods can be purchased after 1pm on the day of fishing. Fishing is allowed from 5pm. These tickets are available between May and Sept
