Fantastic spot for fishing. We used sweetcorn and Spam as bait.
We caught two Eels just after lunch about 1:30 and the Chubb was just before we left at 7pm.

Great spot, I took two novices to try to get them their first barbel and succeeded! I lost a good fish and the ones caught were lovely healthy fish around 2lb each. They were unhooked in the water before release as it was a hot day.

I didn’t arrive until the evening . It’s a beautiful place. Access to the water is poor and it is plain that nobody fishes most of it because the banks are overgrown and the path has been eroded in place. I was using a dry fly but no fish rose the whole evening so I tried nymphs. I didn’t see a single fish. It is primarily a series of old salmon pools with metal stances at the key spots on the named pools. Perhaps a young and agile grayling exert might have done better. I’m 76 and wasn’t happy to wade much.

Fished from 5am and started picking up Chub to 4lb on free lined meat from faster water. Was lucky enough to have the whole beat to myself until lunchtime so was able to move around and fish a few runs until I settled on a pool for the afternoon which resulted in 4 barbel and 2 eels. Again all on meat.
A lovely day as these were my first ever barbel.

Breezy and sunny today, water temperature 22 deg C. We headed for the island stretch and almost immediately started catching chub. Also two barbel one 7lb 4oz, the other around 4.5lb.
We caught on GB feeder, straight lead, float and rolling meat. Pellets, luncheon meat, boilies and sweetcorn all worked as the chub from 1.5lb to 4.3lb gave themselves up. At 6pm we moved to 3 upstream swims but only caught three chub in 3 hours.
A great day on a very picturesque beat!
