We cannot stress enough the importance of making quick and accurate returns of salmon catches, even if nothing has been caught. Recording catch data is one (perhaps the best, certainly the most cost effective) way of determining the success of our river restoration works. Although affected by short term variations in weather and water conditions, the longer term data set will build an accurate picture of our salmon runs. Catch returns can be made quickly via our online form for both Passport and non-Passport waters. Most of our reporting is from the Wye. Where a salmon has come from another river we will state accordingly.

2:25 pm Couple of reports from Usk. 10-12lbs fish caught and returned at Chain bridge this afternoon and encouraging numbers of salmon seen running through Red Barn this morning.
9:15 am Late report of 2 more from Redbrook in September lifting them to 69. Yesterday Wyesham reported 2 and Stuart Smith had a 4lb grilse at Upper Bigsweir. Wednesdays rise on the upper wye should finally reach Monmouth today. This morning the upper Wye is rising again and fairly coloured, whilst the Usk looks in good condition and well worth a cast.

11:46 am At last a really decent downpour on Wales - the type of rain that should make the rivers rise by several metres. Unfortunately, it fell in Hamilton, New Zealand where our boys did battle with the Fijians (successfully!)

1:28 pm Plenty of grilse now showing in the lower river on the back of some very big tides but they are proving tough to hook in the current conditions, and even tougher to land. Wyesham reported one on Wednesday and Bigsweir had seven in the early part of the week.
