The Rectory : Lea Devereaux this morning. River height was 2 foot 9”, very slowly falling and clearing. 1x 8lb Cock fish took a blue tube fly. Rock Pool

Yet another flood is roaring down both valleys. When will it end? Another storm due on Sunday, but then signs then a drying picture. It would be nice if we could get a couple of days fishing in this month!.

The Rocks : 6lb cock fish early yesterday morning for Richard Thomas. On a cascade tube.

Upper Coldbrook (Usk Private Beat) : 10lb very clean hen for Mike Bolt yesterday. Took a Green Butt Cascade Tube.

Llanover (Usk): A couple of fish earlier in the week, 16lb from the Bryn Stream, 12lb from the Lady Pool. Sunday double season rod now for sale at Llanover at weekday rates. Rods available on other days too, see here for details.

Yesterdays forecast 'showers' were more substantive and incessant than the term suggests. Both rivers are now back in spate. The springs and bogs are flowing again again and the drop will be steady.

After 2 weeks of running water in May the springers are right through both systems. These are rare conditions, perfect for the less presitigous upper beats (above Builth and lower Irfon on the Wye, above Brecon on the Usk). When the river drops back to 2ft 6" on the Llanstephen gauge the beats below Builth will be back in play. I am afraid the beats below Hereford will not be fishable for a while.

Let's enjoy the perfect fly water and awe inspiring surroundings of the upper rivers while we can.

Gromain and Upper Llanstephan: 14lb hen fish for James Kent. Taken 1st cast from from the croy, a nothing place that Stephen always told him to try.

Boatside - Hay on Wye: A 24lb cock salmon on a 1" blue/orange/yellow tube fished on a ST line. River still a little cloudy but good level. Alex Golesworthy yesterday.

Glanusk Estate (Usk): 7lbs fish for Harry Legge-Bourke last night. His first for over 10 years!

Lower Carrots & Luggsmouth: 12lb fish for Glynn Cawte yesterday on a single hook FC. A late report also from 7th May, 13lb fish for Eddie Jefferson on a single hook mepps. Both stunning fresh fish.

Newbridge (Usk) : Late report in from last Monday 3rd May, John Harris braved the weather and had a 10lb fish. Rev. mole fly.

The spate is subsiding. Yesterday morning there was 3ft of extra water on the upper Wye and 8-10ft on the Usk. The Usk above Abergavenny and high water catches on the Upper Wye will fish later today. Rest of week should be good on both Usk and Upper Wye.  It will be a few days befor the lower Wye is back in condition.

Hereford AA Water: 15lb very fresh salmon from Luggsmouth to Andrew Smith yesterday on a Cascade.

Ross Angling Water: 8lb cock salmon from the Weirend Beat today to Jon Daniels. Fish in superb condition and caught spinning with a flying. Another salmon lost.

Chainbridge (Usk): 14lb cock fish for Stuart Macoustra yesterday. Took a fly at the top of the Rock pool.
