We cannot stress enough the importance of making quick and accurate returns of salmon catches, even if nothing has been caught. Recording catch data is one (perhaps the best, certainly the most cost effective) way of determining the success of our river restoration works. Although affected by short term variations in weather and water conditions, the longer term data set will build an accurate picture of our salmon runs. Catch returns can be made quickly via our online form for both Passport and non-Passport waters. Most of our reporting is from the Wye. Where a salmon has come from another river we will state accordingly.

9:11 am Both rivers high but steady. This is too high for fishing the Wye but any further drop may bring high water beats up river on the Usk just into fishable height. Its fly only on the Usk in the Spring......But its going to rain again!

5:47 pm Wyebank: 20lb+ fish for Don Macer-Wright on a single hooked flying C. Perfect release.

5:25 pm Courtfield: 18 pounder early this morning for Don Macer-Wright. The fish took a black and silver FC.

4:37 pm Both rivers rose by over 1ft overnight and were carrying some colour. The upper/middle Usk should be fishable now while the upper Wye is dropping and clearing. Wye beats upstream of Hereford should be fishing tomorrow but more rain is forecast later in the afternoon/evening.

5:47 pm Coedithiel: 31lb on red and silver single hooked flying C for Nathan Jubb. First thing this morning and looks to have won the Pol Roger. If so it will be a worthy winner.

4:58 pm Aramstone: 12lbs for Stan Turner on red/black FC and 18lbs for Lawerence Birkin also FC

4:54 pm Courtfield: 15 pounder for Ross James this afternoon from Legg Meadow spinning.

4:36 pm Dean and Chapter: An early morning fish reported for Laurence French on a black and yellow Tube from the neck of the Dean and Chapter pool. Could be competition for Matt for the Pol Roger.

12:36 pm Ross Anglers: 3 this morning: 13lb for Matt Cooper on fly, 13lb for new member Andrew Llewellyn on a Flying C, both from the Benhall beat and an 8lber from the Wilton beat on a flying C for Jon Daniels.
Congratulations to Matt for what is looking like the first Wye fish of the season.

12:09 pm Both rivers are currently low but there is rain about today and over the weekend meaning water conditions for the opening day will be difficult to predict.
