The beat is stunning! Hut was a useful starting point. Low river conditions. Sunny, bright weather with gusting wind making casting hard at times. Very little trout activity detected through the day. Dry fly used. Small patterns. Two small trout caught and returned - 5-6" long and in good condition. Caught in the middle and far side of the pool in the middle beat section.

Wet flies on 6wt rod. There were 3 anglers, both trout were caught by my daughter Sarah! Exciting first catch on a fly rod, in honor of her late grandfather, Prof H.H. Binhammer.

Usk booking was a washout so diverted to Abernant, although the water here was slightly more coloured up than usual with sediment and some floating algae. Managed six small trout on black spider pattern.

Excellent days fishing with all fish caught on the lower half of the beat. All fish caught on spiders with a gold head hares ear on the point. Wind got up in the afternoon and slowed things down considerably. Did try the top end which is normally very good but stones and river bed covered in algae and slime and treacherous for wading. Bottom half of the beat much better. Probably lost as many as I caught with clear water and fish coming short.

Was raining and with a cold east wind made the day difficult. Water level fine but as noted, top of beat very coloured. However, managed a small Trout on Pink tagged nymph. Water mid to bottom was cleaner and across and down produced my PB Grayling 10/12" which took a size 10 soft hackle March Brown nymph. All returned quickly and barbless hooks used.

Very hard fishing, water low and clear manged to connect with one with March brown but didn't get it in the net. Very slimy on the rocks some brown sediment didn't look too healthy.
