If the previous return claims catching 16 trout is a 'score draw', then we were comprehensively defeated today with a big fat blank!
The beat itself is beautiful and offers a good mix of fast runs, flats, gutters, and riffles. At approximately 1.5 miles it's almost impossible to cover it all in a day and we didn't get to fish the upper reaches. As many previous anglers have attested, the river here is dominated by treacherous bedrock, making the wading very, very tricky and not for the fainthearted.
Conditions were pretty good, temperature was around 20c for most of the day and the river had a tinge of colour after the rain last week, however, we saw very few fish rising throughout the day and no hatch materialised. We tried a variety of methods, and aside from tempting one decent fish on a dry which came off after a few headshakes, it was a frustrating day.

First time on this beat, from the bridge I walked to the bottom down to the river and met a another angler on opposite bank so walked back and fished above the bridge which also seemed the easier wading
The fish caught were in the quicker water ,i only fished dry fly today.A very pretty beat although not the easiest wading but worth ago.

Hadn’t been to this stretch for a few weeks and oh my goodness….. jungle warfare just to reach the river! Nettles, balsam…. A poke around with the wading stick to find the drop offs all required several times as you enter and exit the river. Absolutely no fish rising which was a surprise. Managed 2 wbt to the nymph (duo tactics). Think I’ll try more open irfon beats next to have a rest from bank clearance!
