First time fishing this beat( washed off last year) began at the bottom of the beat, and saw 2 grayling in very shallow calm water. They spooked over to the other side so I set up a dry ( it was too calm and shallow for anything else) very gingerly waded across and caught one second cast! 14 " fish very pleased with that. Had another in fast foot deep water even better at 17" on nymph. It has to said a lot of the stretch is very shallow there was only two of the pools where I couldn't see the bottom. There is also quite a lot of bedrock which isn't listed so be carefull ! . If you want somewhere quiet to fish, this is the spot, never heard anything except birds all day long.

Scaled back tactics due to colder water. Had a barbel early on but then went quiet for the rest of the day until dusk. Fished for a pike during the quiet spell to rest the swim.

Great weather, and stunning water. Sadly one of those days where we didn't even see a trout rise, let alone the movement of silver. It felt fishy however, there were times where we sure something was about to happen.

We'll be back!

A final afternoon session of the season. River was 1ft 8" and looked magnificent. Got to the river around 1.30pm, sunray was still on rod from last outing, so gave it a go, and 4th cast in the tail of the rapids it was engulfed by a 9lb fairly clean hen fish. One other salmony pull in the Oaks that didn't stick. Bumped into an old friend who was also fishing, one of the joys of passport waters.

Love this isolated stretch of river, fish caught on robin red pellets from the middle swims, tried bottom swims & top swims in the deeper water but no joy. No Chub about but the Barbel were home best fish nudging 10lb. John came around for a chat & gave me a few pointers as to where the fish may be, river had dropped from last week but still had a bit of pace

3 Barbel
