A beautiful day with the river in excellent condition. Probably too early for the upper river yet though.

A gusty downstream wind with calmer conditions from about 3pm at which time the sun made a welcome appearance. Fished weighted nymphs with a touch of red.

Conditions at Abernant seemed just about perfect with the river at normal level and a generally overcast day with little or no wind. I started in the Lady Alexanders Catch area where I have caught many fish on previous visits but could not get a bite. After half an hour or so I moved down to the Stone Catch area where after wading to mid stream (only knee deep)I found fish willing to feed immediately. Trotted red maggots tempted Grayling after Grayling with a few oos Trout. Sizes were disappointingly small however, with the best Grayling barely making 1lb. A couple of Trout possibly made 1lb 8oz (nothing actually weighed). I had another attempt in LAC later in the day to try and find larger fish but still no bites were forthcoming. Incidentally, waders are essential to reach the most productive runs due to the large areas of shallow gravel. A good day's sport but I failed to find where the big fish live.

Although conditions looked good with river at 2'4" and temperature about 7deg fish the two of us only managed a fish each; both to small nymphs with a touch of pink. I expect there were more fish around but didn't make contact with any of them.

A hard day from start to finish. River 3-4 feet up coupled with a STRONG downstream wind meant despite fishing alot of swims trying to find the fish .... 2 blanks for us. I didn't come close to catching, but my friend Paul lost a fish from some pacey water behind a rock. Looking forward to our next trip where hopefully we can catch a few.

Another great day although very, very cold. Struggled with rods icing up until midday but managed 12 grayling and 6 oos trout to trotted maggot from the Stone Catch area between the 2 of us. Great venue in stunning surrounding with an abundance of wildlife. We will be back again soon.

19 x grayling 6-16 inches, 10 x out of season trout 7-14 inches, trotting. This beat has been fished fairly hard over the weekend, but I had a wash-off in the bank so I thought I would give it a go. 18 inches on the gauge. Cold showers to begin; sunny later. A salmon kelt was wallowing and dying in the shallows with the characteristic white fungus. Eventually I cut the session short after lunch due to post-spawning trout which seemed to be all over the place.

Fished with Roger Smith of Malvern. Had a slow morning but got into the Grayling after lunch and had over 60 fish between us on maggot from Stone Catch. Biggest Grayling 16". River very low and clear. Cold day with blue skies and very light breeze. Work on access point much appreciated.

I chose a guided day as I had not fished this area before and I wanted to see how the experts went about it. The river was clear and not too high. After an hour trotting with maggots we hadn't found the fish, so moved downstream where we found them. Caught a few grayling with trotting tackle, then switched to weighted flies on a short line which produced a couple of takes but none in the net. Oliver introduced me to a Tenkara rod, and this with an indicator and single maggot proved most effective. The grayling were from 6-15 inches and in fine condition, also one oos wbt. Thanks to Oliver Burch and WUF for a great day on this lovely beat.
