where to start, River looked in great nick if slightly still on the high side and I think the fish are not settled yet. Fished the willow pool Ferry pool and Hellrig, saw nothing touched nothing which was a surprise. Talking to two trout fishermen who said they had seen a Salmon in the bridge pool , so there are some there.
We have fished this beat for some years now but we have never found it so dangerous as it is now to both walk and fish the beat. There are stones missing on the paths where you think they were/should be, not washed away as to high from rivers edge, I am not sure what can be done but something needs doing sorry.
We also encountered two canoeists who came straight through us in the Ferry pool I did ask politely what they were doing and could they move to other bank, they did this in fairness but they should not even be there .

two of us fished this beat again. Very Very dangerous and hard going. We know this beat well as have fished it for 6 or 7 seasons now, but this did not save me from going in, where I thought was a good rock step there was nothing so splash in I went, hurt arm and ego. Fished hard most of the pools but nothing seen or caught. Just to add to the rubbish day we were visited by two canoeists in the Ferry Pool, went straight through me at neck of pool, and then my pal who was further down the pool . seasons for all well we keep to ours why don't they.

7 anglers from Charfield Angling Association enjoyed a day on the Upper Wye for trout and grayling, split between Ty Newydd, Gromain and the Rectory. The started the day with a pre-arrranged breakfast at the Griffin Inn in Llyswen. The river was about 1.09m on the NRW Erwood Gauge and very clear.

2 anglers fished Gromain, from the fishing hut in the middle of the beat to below the bridge. A trout was caught early on, on a dry fly. Thereafter, both caught a handful of grayling on nymphs. A salmon showed in the run below the bridge.

The path through the woods up to the top of the beat and Ty Newydd is blocked by a fallen tree, just above the steps with the handrail. It can be cleared with a handsaw.

2 anglers fished Ty Newdd. They managed about 8 trout and grayling between them, mostly on nymphs.
Initially there was one cormorant on Ciliau Run at the bottom of the beat. That flew upstream as we arrived. As one of the anglers worked upstream, there were now 6 cormorants working Bathing Pool. Again they were very wary and immediately spooked upstream. When the angler got to the top of the beat, there were now 10 cormorants working Erwood Pool in formation. Those birds will be taking 10+ lbs of fish per day out of the river.

3 anglers fished the Rectory. During the morning and afternoon, they caught some grayling, trout and a chub on nymphs. In the late afternoon, there was a rise of fish on one of the flats, and they managed about 8 or 9 more on dry flies.
