Arrived to find fishing not possible given the fact the river is flooded - swims are underwater and flow too fast.

Arrived at the river 6.30 to see the river flowing at a fast rate with a dark brown quality . (Didn’t think it was a good sign and maybe a hard day fishing) but nevertheless ended up to be a successful day with three Barbel caught between the times of 8am - 10am one chub at midday. Fish to 4 o’clock. Did lose a lot of tackle. But a successful day. Slight rain 4pm onwards..

Was luckly with the water levels (.8 at Cilmery) – a little higher than I’d have liked, but it was more than fishable. Mostly out of season trout to nymphs, but when the sun broke through the heavy rain clouds, a few fish started rising and a beatiful 17.5” grayling put a huge smile on my face, having taken my tiny traditional grayling dry fly. A beatiful stretch of water, the grayling might be few and far between, but if you catch one, it’s usually a specimen.
