Spent the day pike fishing with deadbaits. I managed one around 13lb and lost another of similar size. There's a hard standing here for two cars and there was a car parked in the one space that wasn't fishing. Very quiet stretch, you don't see anyone all day so I was surprised to look up and see 3 people walking towards me, it was the EA bailiffs checked my rod license. Then went looking for the owner of the other vehicle but there wasn't anyone else there.

Blank, river seriously high and very difficult to fish as this is a very straight stretch and therefore there was no slack water or holding areas. Tried a variety of baits, tactics and swims but could not get a bite. Booked before Christmas in the hope the rain would abate, never mind there's always next year.

Hard day river up and pushing through. Will have to visit the beat again in more favourable conditions.

My first time on this beat, but will definitely not be the last! A lovely stretch with lots of good pegs and an easy walk from the car park. Tried 3 in all and caught fish on every one. Maggotts landed a complete mixed bag (black cap feeder, 3 red maggots on a size 12 with 8lb hook-length) - including dace, perch, grayling, trout, chub and eventually a superb double figure barbel! Used my Hardy Marksman specimen feeder rod, with a 4oz tip and 10lb main line. Switched to my favourite barbel rod (Daiwa Infinity Specialist Barbel - 2.25lb test curve), with 15lb 'red mist' main line, a 4oz open-ended Korum cage feeder and 12lb hook-length of 15 inches. Started with large elipse pellets and didn't get a touch. Switched to 8ml (2 glued to a hair rig, with Martin Bolwer XTRACTA groundbait in the feeder) and started catching striaght away - 6 chub to over 5lb and 6 more barbel with 3 doubles. All of the barbel came in the hour before and after sunset.
Another excellent WUF beat and one which I will visit again very soon!

River rising through day seemed to put fishing down, still enjoyed a day out in a nice part of the Wye valley.

A very cold day made the pike fishing very slow, one fish was landed on a lure which weighed about 12lbs. Will have to have another go at some point.

A nice stretch of river, only managed a few small chub but conditions not ideal. Bank access is a little tricky in some spots but generally it's not too bad.
