Despite rain and gusty wind I managed to get a few trout to take dry flies or nymphs. Most of them managed to get off the hook before I could land them. An interesting afternoon and evening.

Nice height of water, but visibility fairly poor - seemed murky. This is a nice beat. Surprised to be greeted by 2 guys coming out of the woods as we parked up and telling us that they were responsible for the stretch, before disappearing back into the wooded area near the car parking area. Strange!

We saw a couple of fish - felt as though they were moving through. No salmon caught. Fished fly all day. Chub seemed keen, but Salmon not so much so. Look forward to coming back again - will try to time it a little better with the water (clarity).

River pretty low and wind not helpful ! Not many fish rising and little by way of hatches. One nice trout (7”) on a beaded nymph and lost a larger one on a black gnat. Lovely river and stunning scenery.

An early start at 7.00am. No salmon seen. One nice trout of 11/2 lb from the Rectory neck on an Usk Grub. Switched to trout after midday .Fish came steadily until packing up at 3.30pm. 6”-12”. Usk Naylor, and PTN caught most of them. 2 on a small dry Grey Wolf.
Hut balcony was a welcome shelter from some of the torrential showers.

An excellent beat - all the best features of the Usk in one, relatively, small stretch. The water level was on the low side (0.69), however the riffles and 'pocket water' proved the most productive. Only three fish in the net but plenty more on, albeit briefly. Very few risers and all fish and takes came to bead head nymphs fished on the Euro rig. A splendid day on the river.

No salmon caught but quite a few seen - both resident and running fish. The river was carrying a lot of colour after the recent rain.

Caught a shad on the fly in the stones pool.
