i knew there was a pulse of water coming downstream, so made an early start to be on the river at first light...i was reckoning on about 6hrs before the water would start to rise. Took me a couple of hours to find fish...no where near where i found them in the past...right at the tail of the run after the stones, absolutely nothing in the faster water. Meat/pellet/corn all bought fish...barbel of around 6lb. Lost a bigger one at the net; if its a broken hooklength or a break at a knot you kind of take it on the chin...to lose a decent fish because a swivel snapped in half left me feeling a bit cheated. Water came at about 1.30...bites stopped..weed and debris didnt help...battled on for a couple of hours before i ran away.

Hello, we had a great day fishing however the herd of 20 plus bulls with calves caused us an issue. Many of the walkers on the public footpath warned us of the bulls, however since they were keeping away from the river we managed to have an enjoyable day fishing, until the final hour. When attempting to leave about 5pm, we found the entire herd had moved to the exit gate and we found ourselves unable to leave. After calling the contact number over the next 30 minutes, as well as farm contacts at the Wye and Usk, there was nobody that we could ask for advice. We approached the farm at the top only to find 2 bulls blocking the gate. The only way out was to move through the top right gate and through the next field. Not sure if this is normal for anglers to navigate the bulls in this way but thought I would mention it.

Other = roach. Bit of water on for the first day and this really switched the fish on. This made it a bit of a challenge to hold bottom in the shallower part downstream where the water bottlenecks through but was great for moving baits. Further upstream down from the bend was able to hold bottom on the inside crease. Takes all through the day on the float, rolled baits and ledgering. meat and pepperami as hookbaits with hemp as loose feed. Something for everyone in this wonderful stretch.
