River still a little high and carrying some colour but definitely fishable.
At least 2 fresh fish of a good size seen in the Vanstone. No interest unfortunately though.

River fast and coloured, about 2/3 of the stones from Maddox to Corner Tree out of the water (just), this was my first time on the beat so I am assuming these form the walkway mentioned in the notes.
Fished a Flying C all day but no luck and nothing seen.
Banks very slippery, take a wading staff even for fishing from the bank.

First visit on the Wye. Initial reaction spinning up the left bank, donated a few flying c to the river, result nil. Decided to fish right bank on the fly 1" black/yellow conehead down the Lines caught a 9" brownie. Came back through again and had a great pull, initially thought I had hooked my first Wye salmon only to find a lovely 20" brownie landed and returned after a quick snap on phone. A great end to a day on the Wye.

No salmon but very nice brownie about a pound from Maddox in the late afternoon. Very pleasant day on a lovely piece of fly water. Much work has been done on the access to the upper parts of the beat. Thank you. Just a shame the parking is now so far from the game fishing beat - Don't forget anything!

Blank. Every year about this time I tell myself I am not going to develop that Last Chance Saloon, must catch one before it's all over, salmon twitch. And every year I do. Still, it was a lovely Autumn day at Goodrich, the sun shone, colour in the trees and pheasants everywhere, all ready for the shooting season. Had a pleasant chat with the other rod, who told me all about salmon fishing in Galicia (ruined by over-fishing apparently). Between the two of us, we worked the beat which on recent form looked a reasonable bet, very hard, but neither of us had touched a fish by the end of the day. I have to record pleasure at two canoers who called down to ask whether they should pass behind me while I was wading and then stopped to ask some intelligent and friendly questions about the fishing. Wish that they could all be like that!

Nice bit of fly water and a lovely place to fish. River looked ok, conditions as well but no fish showing so no fish for me this time. Thanks to the Wye and Usk Foundation for all the information provide.

A wet and cold day at first turning sunny. Salmon seen in Vanstone. First Chub on the fly.
Access to the upper section difficult and exit even harder. Ladder or rope would help. The parking area has been moved further downstream, making it much less convenient if reliant on car for changing gear and lunch.
Many thanks to the Wye & Usk Foundation.

WUF note - Unfortunately the parking arrangements had to be changed as a result of some anglers previously not following the specific beat instructions on the paperwork provided. ALL anglers MUST adhere to these rules or more situations like this will arise.

Inspired by success of MP yesterday I freed up some time and was able to grab 4hrs on the beat in the afternoon. River about 1ft and looking spot on. The residents were splashing in the Vanstone but not playing ball and I saw saw a running fish above the stone just as I started fishing the Maddox. Went upstream and just off the spine in the tail of the Dog Hole the #8 Bann special shrimp was taken solidly by a 11-12lb hen fish that had been in the river a month or so....pewter specked with rose. She gave a good scrap in the fast water. Island felt good and the 2 fish that showed as I was fishing it served to heighten the anticipation, but no further action, and I packed up as the light faded and the rain set in.
