really different from last week - bites really fussy and barely more than a tremble of the tip at times - all came in the morning - rain pushed the water up a few inches and it seemed to stop them feeding. another two 9 pounders to add to the three from last week...but still no double.

Evening session. Had planned to fish at Cronkley Bridge but too windy when I got there so dropped down to Dent Bank; better but still strong downstream wind. Fished duo upstream, fish taking both dry and nymph. Seven in the first hour, then slowed down. Then fished streamer back downstream, very little interest only a couple of quick knocks.

Fished afternoon through until 22.15. 7 browns to 10” on dries before it got dark and then we hoped for a silver one . Plenty around … a couple of clonkers included… but no takers. Plenty of insect life in the river and a river bank encounter with a grass snake …

A bit of a rise from about 9.15 to 9.45, possibly to very small olives. Lost one strong fish on the small sedge (16) I was trying (and which was largely being ignored), which it turned out (from the scale attached to the tiny hook on retrieval) had been foul-hooked. Two hobbies hawking high overhead, and a kingfisher, in the late evening.

Beat:Arrow Kington

Fishing:Trout (River)

Really wasn't sure where to plumb for today, after a busy couple of client days in the Elan Valley, so opted for an old timer ...the Arrow @Kington !!!!
Strewth she's like a serious jungle, and worse up past the collapsed weir !!! I think patrolling in Belize was easier than that top section ! I presume the Kington club have long "abandoned" looking after this beat .... mind you, is anything maintained with a sense of pride these days.... seems not !!!!
Anyway , mega stealth, dry fly work as always .... Six peas in a pod today ..Strangely only one risers, the rest prospecting in likely areas. Lovely aggressive hits here ... Fish all about sevrnnor eight inches , those lovrly markings on the Arrow fish you don't see in any other local stream in the vicinity ... gorgrous !!!!
Fished between two and half five , odd kind of gusty weather, but still warm . Not fabulous for dry fly presentation, but was still fun ....
A lovely 3.5 hours on an old stomping ground . She's mega low and lots of new trees in what used to be lovely pools ...Maybe high winter floods will shift a few . Great for trout cover though I must say. Some serious deep scoured pools underneath them, always adds features. Saw dippers, kingfishers , spooked a roe deer and was pestered by horse flies ... Ahhhhh summer by a river hey .....Just Bliss !!!!!!

Fished the bottom half of the beat which is fascinating to fish and holds some big fish. Unfortunately it’s only possible to fish the bottom two fields. It is near impossible wading up the river to make it past the suspension footbridge and if you opt to get out of the river and walk round that obstacle there are three fences with no stiles to navigate around the bridge up into the next field. Real pity as there looks to be plenty more fishing to go at but it’s not accessible and I didn’t want to damage fences trying to climb over them.
