Nice river. level quite normal (according to grass on dry banks). Very few rises. Blank day rods. Dry only.

Very low water level, only 3 fish sighted all day. No takes on nymphs/dries

3 brown trout, all released. Arrived just after noon and there was a decent mayfly hatch on, mostly iron blues. Strangely I didn't see a single rise, but they were taking below the surface - caught two lovely fish of 14.5 and 14" on nymphs within c. 30 mins. Thought it was about to be a red letter day, but then the hatch petered out and it was rock hard all afternoon - nothing rising, tried many flies but no bites until a few mayflies started hatching again towards sunset. Then it was like a switch had been flicked and a few trout started rising - caught one more of 8" off the top on a size 14 Adams (some medium-large mayflies with light greyish/yellow colouration also hatching about this time - maybe large spurwing?). Another stunning Usk beat, thoroughly enjoyed it even in the quiet spells. Lot of dipper and kingfisher activity (one dived and caught a small fry about 10m from me at one point!), also an otter spraint near the beat start. Nice to see the river carrying more water after the rain last week too.

Despite the rain we caught some lovely trout. Biggest one was 16" which was caught in the 'junction' pool.

A difficult evening, river exceptionally low. However water temps good at 14 degree. 2 trout both 12 -13 inches. Spooked some better ones. A rise didn't materialise as hoped. The bedrock on this beat is like black ice - I took a tumble and luckily didn't break anything!

River very low, some good fish seen by none caught.

Incredibly hot day with no fish seen or caught. A pleasant day either way.
