I haven’t fished this beat before but there is a lot of damage from flooding that makes access and fishing difficult, which appears recent. The best section is downstream from the bridge.

First time for me on this beat and shared with Ian (nice to meet you!) who arrived at the same time in the early afternoon. Found some rising fish straight away to March browns and large dark olives, landed 3 including a beauty of approx. 2lb. Several other large fish fixated on smaller stuff. Headed to the upper end for the late afternoon, where there was a continuous hatch of LDOs, olive uprights and some Turkey Browns (?). The trout were on them throughout, reaching a peak around 5.30-6.30pm. Landed 3 more and lost as many more including some brutes. Decent stamp of fish and only 1 tiddler amongst them. All landed on home tied CDC emergers or split wing patterns. Lovely day and nice beat, will be back.

A sunny day with good hatches throughout but I didn't see a single rise. After a couple of hours swinging wets I moved to using streamers which proved to be very effective. The trout wanted a fry imitation moving extremely fast. Once I'd cracked the code I caught some great trout of about 1.5 pounds and upwards. The largest was about three pounds. I also caught one chubb.

No trout caught, just a few small perch which were returned.
The water level was very high which restricted the available areas suitable for fly fishing.

Failed to get name of top angler/guide who I met on the beat. Very interesting advice from him. Will check to see if he posts.
Fishing tough but managed a few on bpth dries and nymphs. Very engaging but and earlier me would have struggled.
Fly life refreshing to see and the Sand Martins were hard at it!!
