A very sunny day and clear water made for difficult fishing. Very few fish were feeding on the surface until the sun came off the water at which stage we had a few fish on emergers. No evening hatch to speak of.

This beat seems to be plagued by out of season and out of water depth kayakers who's lame excuse of..."Oh, I sorry I didn't know...." did not stack up. I told them that they should not be in the water and to get out as soon as they could but they lamely ignored me and kept going. I had no opportunity to tell them were to get more information as they were gone.
These 3 were kayakers had all the right gear; spray-decks, safety equipment etc so knew what they were up to - just paddled straight through the pool I was about to fish. How would they feel if my fishing activities stopped them having a paddle?
I pay to be able to use the water - these people do not and then ruin it for others.
Reading the past fishing reports it does seem to me that this beat suffers more than most on the Usk.
So, WUF & NRW - over to you.
Fishing Report now follows: Lovely beat with varied water. Water and weather conditions were good for me. I suggest to have a wading stick as even at these lower water levels, it helped me to get to places I would not otherwise attempted. 5 WBT to 13" to the net and managed to land (what I think was) a 10" salmon. All were taken on a soft hackled CDC dry fly - see onstream-guide.com for the pattern. Managed not to hook a kayak, will try harder next time but will probably need to go up a weight or two.

Bright sunshine. I struggled to re-adjust to “big river” tactics after so much time on the wild streams this season. The first two fish to take my flies felt like monsters, they were, they took off down stream, did acrobatics and shook off my barbless hooks with relative ease. Plenty of interest later in a Blonde Wulff but I only managed to bring two to hand the best of which was a 9” fish from Farm Pool.

No fish caught. River in good condition. Few rising fish. Missed a few takes on dry and nymph. Tough day, but an interesting stretch a water.

Quiet in the morning on the middle section, but the lower end livened up after lunch. Very little in the way of fish rising, but the one I did see took a parachute Adams first time. The rest were taken on small nymphs, they seemed to have a preference for size 14 green tungsten bead with green dubbing. One very pretty fish caught of around 1.5lb. Beautiful markings. Lower end of the beat is lovely, especially in the sunshine!

Another day on the River Usk and fishing a beat that we hadn't been to before. After a very relaxing night in the Wellington we headed down to the river. The heavens opened whilst we were setting up and we got fairly wet! However, it didn't last too long and the sun came out and warmed things up very quickly. A few fish were spotted rising just before the junction pool and a tiny 2 inch fish was taken on a small olive cdc. The colours on that fish were spectacular and it was safely released to put on a couple of pounds. I spooked a big fish the next cast putting the fly on the water too hard... We headed up into the junction pool where 3 very good fish were sipping away. Again they were being fussy but a size 20 cdc home tied fly did the job on a spectacularly marked fish of 20 inches! The fish on the far side came up to the same pattern but I missed it! After another half an hour of fly changing and the same fish rising I tempted him with a greenwell's glory - lovely fish of 16 inches. The day then got quiet and fish stopped rising and certainly were not taking any nymphs we put in front of them... Until we had a late afternoon rise where I picked up to small fish in 2 casts and a couple of others below the junction pool. Again lovely day fishing with a mate, couldn't ask for anything more! We will return!
