A lovely warm day on the river. The water was clear but high so we decided to sit and wait for rising fish. There was a small hatch of LDOs and a smattering of March Browns here and there but in all, we saw 4 rises. A good fish was hooked and lost, but with the insects gone, we called it a day. Beautiful scenery and lovely to be out.

Blanked - although I did hook and lose one. The river was still very high after all the recent rain, and although it had cleared it was still really surging through. Wading was difficult and only safe within a couple of metres of the bank in most places. There were a few LDOs and march browns hatching for about an hour in the early afternoon, and I spotted a fish occasionally rising - Sod's Law on the far bank. Presenting a fly was very difficult to avoid the massive drag in the middle - had to make a good reach cast/upstream mend. Eventually I made a good cast for just long enough for a lovely take on an Imperial, hooked up... and then lost it a few seconds later due to a duff knot! Not enormous, but a decent one of c. 14". Did all the hard work and lost it to a schoolboy error - every year I seem to find a new stupid way to lose an early season fish, but hopefully that will get rid of the rustiness! Absolutely dead either side of the hatch as is usual here in spring. But it was great to be out on the river again after such a long, wet and dreary winter - it was beautiful out there. Thanks again for letting me fish it

Chub more obliging as river levels better. Bread and maggots on the hook with the same through the feeder was the successful method.

The river looks unexpectedly good today. Of course, a little high and fast. All brown trout were caught into Ash Tree Pool: 2 in net and 3 lost.

Fishery looking in excellent condition. Banks well looked after. River on the high side but clear enough to spin. Tried the high water catches in the morning. Other commitments in the afternoon. It will be better over the weekend and I'll be back.

Great beat, felt there could have been one somewhere in the beat. Level dropping which will improve chances in more pools.
