River in excellent condition. Reasonably warm day with a gusty downstream wind that gradually got stronger as day went on. All fish caught using French leader either on hares ear or olive tungsten bead nymphs. Fish started to rise to LDO's and Brook Duns from 11 onwards, but the wind was to strong to use dry fly effectively so I decided to say on nymphs and the fish didn't mind. All pools and runs produced fish Ranging from 8" to 16" and just as many dropped. First time on this beat very interesting indeed. Only criticism is that a few fences don't have styles and one of the farm gates has barred wire wrapped around the top bar. Can the land owner not remove this as it serves no purpose other than to rip fisherman's expensive waders?

On a bright but relatively warm day I started fishing a team of nymphs in the deeper riffles, landing seven wbt to 10 inches. At lunch time I switched to the dry and landed two lovely trout of 1lb and 1 3/4lbs. I also moved a much bigger fish in the quarry pool. There were plenty of sporadic rises throughout the afternoon but I found conditions tricky with low, clear water and only a light hatch of fly to interest the fish.

Very tough day. Windy, chilly and not a fish showing itself. So much better than work though.

Hot and sunny! River clear, a beautiful stretch and a pleasure to fish. One trout to a nymph. Little surface activity or flies emerging.

Despite the warm weather very little moving all day. In mid afternoon covered one of the very few moving fish and landed a trout just under 1.5 lbs.
That was the only activity for the day.

Started on nymph without luck, tried on dry fly on the only 2 fished I spotted rising but it seemed they had other plans. No hatches of any kind. The bottom is full of caddis but maybe the water temperature too low. Lovely day though.

First time on this beat and a lovely place to spend the final day of the season, very interesting variety of water. The pools and runs were a tad high for our liking however, we caught and released some very nice trout. Found a half eaten salmon of about 4lb which an otter had enjoyed. We caught many, many leaves and had the pleasure of a floatila of red Canadian canoes with the Wild River Adventures Logo, splash their way through the beat There were only about 8 canoes but they were spread out over about 400 yds. As I had not checked the Brecon Web cam this morning, I was in no position to berate them. Perhaps a total ban of canoes on the upper Usk on the final day of the season would be a good thing so we could at least see the season out in peace as we will not be back on the water for another 5 months.

Great location but unfortunately no takes or fish caught. Fished from 4pm until dusk. River levels fairly low and clear. Tried a variety of flies/fishing methods including klinkhammer, pheasant tail but without success. Very few fish observed despite good hatch of stonefly later in the day. Will try again early next year!
