Excellent system which was new to us. Dai, thanks for help and Advice.

Went out with excellent Guide Chris Price to discover the secrets of Welsh River Fishing. Thank you. Dries and Nymph under dry fly "indicator".

Three lovely fish but the very bright sun in the afternoon effected a retirement to the the pub.

After a slow start caught a nice fish about 1/2lb on a PTN. Then around lunch time there was a small hatch & fish started rising & caught 4 more fish, 2 at about 1lb & 2 at about 3/4lb, all on a brown Klinkhammer.

1 brown trout
Access to the river was poor. The island and the opposite bank were totally inaccessible. Needs maintenance.

We were blessed with fine weather and a falling river. Almost every fly within season were seen, LDOs, March Brown, Hawthorn and clouds of Gnats. All fell to Olive F fly, best a fat 18" brown which took exception to being hooked and the net. A good water with a good mix of features, access to the left bank fishing needs commitment. A feature of the beat less attractive to the fly fisher is the public nature and easy access to all, a dog walker with Olympic standard labs could easily reach a ball thrown to mid stream in a single bound and as the temperature rose the local swimming pool lost out to the Usk, but it did however gain litter and baby wipes.

Rising fish on the slower water at the bottom of the beat all day, save for an hour or two around 5 o'clock. 3 decent trout caught, all around the pound, and about a half dozen on and off. They seemed to be keen on an Imperial in size 14 or 16 (when I lost all my 14's)! Didn't make contact with any small fish and a much bigger one straightened out what was a very weak hook! Great fun, seem to be lots of trout here. Brook Dun, Olive Upright and increasingly Yellow Mays about.

This was a lovely hot Bank Holiday Monday. It's a beautiful stretch of river. The fishing wasn't easy in the heat of the day but during the evening the fish were more receptive and four trout in total. Frustratingly at times, the well tended private stretch was popular with dog walkers and swimming parties. Perhaps it was just because it was a Bank Holiday.

An excellebt beat but spoiled due to 6 dogs and people swimming in the river ( it was the first real spring day of the year. There is a public footpath on the north bank that was very well used on this day.
The river was like gin and low. Saw a 3lb trout, so did a dog who jumped on it! Suggest just fishing the south bank which has a walk way away from the footpath. Small hatch of olives.
There are excellent salmon pools on this beat and under different conditions and at a different time of year would be a good prospect.

Sporadic hatches of olives, mostly late morning to lunchtime, and just a few grannom about. Some egg-laying rusty spinners before lunch. Most fish came to nymphs in streamy water. A couple on olive F-flies and a solitary missed take to spiders. Fish not quite on the hatches yet.
