I found this beat a bit intimidating, lots of very high vegetation, fastwater and some very high banks. Not a beat for a novice. I caught 2 small browns on 16 mayfly patten.
I missed 3 or 4 what looked to be good fish. I think this is a beat for the experienced fisherman, otherwise go with a friend to be safe.

No salmon caught or seen. However one sea trout approx. 1lb caught on a Silver Wilkinson. The river was settling in to very good condition by the time I left at 7pm.
During the day I observed two men spinning illegally from the left bank just above the Glan-y-Cafn stretch; one of them looked like an opportunist poacher type and the other was wearing waders and had proper equipment. When he saw me sitting on the bank opposite him he moved off downstream, to the next beat below.

Fished one rod in the end and caught 7 WBT, all on pheasant tail nymph and all at the top end of the beat. Things went very quiet after around 3pm. All fish under 3/4 pound but lost a couple of better fish. Saw a fresh dead salmon half eaten by (probably) an otter. Looks to be good fly water for salmon in the right conditions. In over summer flows wading the bottom end (best dry fly water) is a very deep wade!
Will fish this beat again.

River high, flowing very fast and murky. Heavy rain! Good conditions for a first timer!!!! Only waded knee deep as I was a bit intimidated by the speed and height of the water. Fished for three hours but ...... caught a small brownie of 6 inches on a olive nymph and another about nine inches on an Adams dry. Both returned. So all in all had a great time.

Some mayfly visible but few rising fish whilst I was there from 9am to 3pm. I stuck to weighted nymphs, catching 8 WBT, one of which was close to 2 pounds and several others around or just over the pound mark.

Fished 3 - 7:30 p.m on mainly dry but cool and overcast day. Nice golden trout of ca. 3/4 pound caught early on using pale watery type (light yellow-bodied dry fly) in riffled area just below island. Lovely fishing and am keen to return.

5 trout - 2 on a Klinkhammer and 3 on goldhead hares ear - all returned; nothing bigger than 1/2 pound. With a few fish rising started the day (a miserable one weather wise) with an Adams. After no offers changed to NZ style with a nymph fished under a Klinkhammer. Two fish came quickly to the Klinkhammer so I changed to fishing that on its own but without further success. I have it on good authority that the Klinhammer worked NZ style due to the weight on the nymph making it sit in the surface film (emerger style) rather than on it (the eternal fascination of trout fishing). 3 more fish in the afternoon all to nymphs fished bottom to mid water. Very interesting beat and easy to fish but caught the Usk in one of her more dour moods and the change in weather and low pressure did not help.

River very clear with a few flies about but not many rises. Temperature was several degrees lower than previous days with a cold wind. Caught 4 trout up to 12in on dry fly. Only able to fish till 12.30. First time I have fished here but would like to try again sometime.

Lovely beat, had 4 wbt to one rod and one to the other - all on s16 copperhead nymphs all around 10". Plenty of fly about but fish not really rising. Rose a couple on elk hair sedge later on but did not connect.
