What a hard days fishing! The weather seemed perfect, water temp was okay but nothing hatching, just a few here and there. Even when sight fishing nothing would tempt the trout up. I managed one by swinging a wet spider down a riffle and that was it.
On the upside, I lovely beat with some great water and holding spots. The pools looked like on a good day they would come alive. We will be back and hopefully have a day when things SWITCH ON.

1 small browny on a nymph. Several swirls around the dry flies but not managing to connect. Enjoyed the beat.

Fished from the bank on beats 4 and 5. We fished from approx 11.30 until 16.00 on a hot, clear day. Fish were showing towards the end of the session at Locksters Pool, but no takes unfortunately.

Looks and feels like August summer fishing conditions, small hatch of yellow mayfly but no rising fish. I suppose because of hot conditions, no takes for dry or even nymphs in pools. Difficult to find downstream limit and even more difficult to fish. Because 150 metres of the downstream beat is out of play, there is limited options during challenging conditions.

The lowest I've seen the river here at this time of year , sluggish on the whole and the river bed desperately needs a flush through and the rocks where quite greasy for the wading which is unusual here. Hope the rain forecast next week helps! No mayfly seen , probably come and gone I guess so just had the evening session after another hot day.

Very little fly /spinner etc but found a pod of maybe half a dozen or so good fish sipping on some bits of spinner in a slow pool up from the farm. Hooked one that would have gone around a pound but lost at the net...oops...but then latched onto a better fish that gave me the real run around and netted safely though the fly pinged out as it slid over the net ! A stunning fish that I'm sure could have made 2 pound , deep bodied and in fabulous condition.I'll remember that one for a long time! All the commotion put the pool down for sure but was way much more than happy with that exceptional fish so let them be for the night. The fly used was a size 18 rusty spinner. Lots of small trout topping in the junction pool, great. The farm pool had some good trout showing but very spooky. Other usually 'banker' runs where really quiet.
Bug life on the stones etc was a bit sparse.
