I had a visit to Llyn y Dywarchen (SGLL Fishing Society). It’s a wonderful llyn location. However, I must say I was extremely disappointed by the number of disturbances. Granted this was a hot weekend with temperatures reaching 30*C. The llyn was plagued by visitors stripping off and launching themselves into the water, not to mention the paddleboarder.
The most unwelcome thing was the discovery of a poachers line, 15 metres of heavy fishing line tied around the base of a gorse plant. At first I thought it was someone’s snapped line until further exploration. The line was tight into the Llyn and as I tried to gather it in, it soon became clear that there was actually a fish attached to the end of the line. A rainbow about 1.5lb. This was a fairly primitive poachers method, the business end comprised a stopper knot, plastic bead and a rolling bullet weight. A 18” hook trace with a wormed hook.
I released the rainbow and destroyed the poachers line.

Not sure what has happened over recent years, maybe the modern influence of social media but our British countryside has been plagued by mindless idiots.

Thank you to the club for offering guest day tickets and best of luck to the club and members in tackling this systemic poaching problem across North Wales.
