4 browns (6-12") caught on nymph. 1 other lost(possibly the biggest of the day) on balloon caddis. Cold & windy conditions, with sporadic hatches of grannom & LDO between the rain squalls. Very few fish seen rising. Only fished the right bank, top half of the beat (between 11.30-18.30). No signage demarcating the beat limits, and not that clear from the map either.

Fortunate to have three hours of lovely weather between 11am and 2pm. No surface activity but caught over 10 trout on ptn - largest circa 2lb. Weather deteriorated after that and the fishing with it. Hatch of grannom on upper pool about 3.30 pm. Fish not switched on to them. Left at 4pm - satisfied. Enjoyed my day - nice spot, good access and varied water. Map of beat does not show large island and it is not clear where top and bottom of beat actually is. Also no clear pathways at top and bottom. I found this unsatisfactory. Otherwise, most enjoyable.

Rain all morning then brightened up, but still chill light wind. Lovely early evening sun was welcome. Rising fish very picky with several clear takes missed but took a very strong 15" brown trout at the down stream end of the beat in the slower water, late on at 5pm on an Adams 14. Good new beat with plenty of variety. Thank you.

12 x trout 9-18 inches. First time for me on an interesting and unusual beat. You reach the river down cottage garden steps and find yourself on some hundreds of yards of concrete and timber walkway built immediately over salmon lies, mainly deep and fast-flowing water water. Feeding trout come up into some of this water; if you take one you have to kneel and reach down to net it. Be a little wary, because the river has been eating away at this structure over the years and some of the lower section is in bad repair. I had a clumsy fall when a piece of concrete moved under me and strained my wrist trying to save myself. Much of the big pool below can be waded, but it's also worth mentioning a need to watch out for barbed wire in the bank. This looked to be a good day, with lots of water coming down. Another rod and I had an interesting time puzzling out a slow-burning grannom hatch after lunch: 10-12 inch trout were quite keen to take spiders. That was ended by an intense shower of rain about 4 o'clock, but I'm glad I went back to the river afterwards as fish began to move again. Last cast of the day produced a "proper" wild Usk trout, a fat hen fish of 18 inches which took a Hare's Lug and Plover spider. A very enjoyable day, although the casting wrist is still aching!

Snow on the Sugar Loaf did not inspire confidence in a day's dry fly fishing, and so it proved when I arrived. There was not a sign of any flies or fish moving, so I trundled a weighted PTN through the pools and did get a couple of tugs, but no fish. As the afternoon wore on, there were a few grannom and LDO in evidence, so I changed to a dry LDO and fished the lower half of the beat. The few flies were not enough to call it a hatch and the few fish rising, not enough to call it a rise, but I did rise a few fish to my fly and landed 2 of 9" and 12" (returned). An entertaining afternoon and I look forward to coming back in May. Excellent, efficient service from the Foundation - as always.

Good grannom on arrival. 2 fish quickly on cdc both about 15ozs (returned), then a cold downstream wind got up & the grannom disappeared. Minimal olives after that but no moving fish.

12 trout between the 2 rods, biggest just under 1.5lbs. A heavy grannom hatch on the Usk today (but hardly any olives) with plenty of fish rising. A couple on PT nymph and klinkhammer but most fell to a Dave Collins grannom emerger.
A really nice beat with access about as easy as it gets. The salmon pools look great and will be well worth a go when levels are higher.

12 WBT shared between 2 rods and many more missed. All fish were a good size with a couple at 2lb and 1.5lb. There was a huge Grannom hatch that lasted most of the day, bringing fish to the surface until around 6pm. Most took CDC & Elk Hair fished on a long leader. A great day's fishing!

Great day. Sunny and windless and in high teens after frosty start Started at 11 and had two(returned) just under a pound browns in first hour on tups indispensable and a number of rises and takes. After lunch in pub returned and had one more take and then afternoon went flat. Stayed to 6.30 but nothing moved. Really nice place to fish. Water low and very clear.
